Newcomer / Intro Targetting shortcuts?

I've looked in the settings and can't see any, but if there any way to setup keyboard keys for targeting modules, like P for power plant and L for life support?

I'm not very good at flicking through the menus with my stick.

Thanks.

There's Target Next Subsystem, which at least removes the necessity of opening the menu by cycling through them for you with each press.
But that's the best you've got, I think.

I wish. 1 click to target power plant would be nice! If I'm entering combat vs. a wing or tough NPC ship I hit Boost right away to give myself a second to target the power plant then turn and fight.

Ok, I think I can work with that.

If I target Ship1 then cycle to the Power Plant, with PP be selected for Ship2, or will I need to cycle again? Or as with other menus does it matter what you've done in between therefore you have no idea each time?

Each new target change starts you over again at the top of subsystems.

There's no way to bind targeting of specific subsystems to a key, I suspect this is by design as it's been brought up before and no action has been taken.

You can bind a key to "Target Next Subsystem" (and another to target previous) which will allow you to quickly cycle through the subsystems until you get the one you want. I have it bound to a button + hat right, and use it all the time.

The other thing you can do, if you're on PC, is pick up Voice Attack, and create a macro that hits the key you bound for "target next subsystem" several times in quick succession. As different ships have different subsystems, you can't get the macro to land on power plant only, but it can skip the first 6-7 subsystems for you, and then you only need to hit your bind 1-2 times. I used to have a macro like this, but I found it more effort than it was worth. You may have more luck though.

Target previous is the most important one. Pp is normally about 6 previous for the big ships.

And if you are the one interdicting, you can 'count beforehand' how many clicks you need because you have plenty of time during the chase to take a look at the internals panel, they won't change. usually some ship loadouts are pretty similar, the more ships you take a look the more probably you will 'kind of know' where the PP is going to be (mid, bottom, etc)..

I am not really into the combat side of things but one thing I learned early on was to use "Target Previous Sub-system" as that seemed to bring up the power plant quick - I don't know if that is still the case as I have not "gone pew-pew" in a long time. By having the two controls on either side of a 4-way hat on the throttle I could get to the pp quickly (the other two opposing sides of the hat are next and previous target).
