Sounds awesome and very generous :)
I think people playing alpha multiplayer could already make use of it!

I am not sure but if any one is interested I have the possibility of setting up a dedicated teamspeak3 server for players of Elite Dangerous .
Their would be no need to register or join a forum as long as you play Elite Dangerous you would be able to join , and jump in to the teamspeak3 server when ever you wanted to . I am a member of a gamer forum willing to set up the teamspeak3 server and pay for it . Every channel in the teamspeak server would be for Elite Dangerous no other game would be supported in it . So you can form private groups or one big channel :D
Reply with your thoughts please :)

Pretty used to TS3 so I agree it's a Brilliant plan!

Sounds interesting, one thing I've been trying to find out is that if you were playing on there using teamspeak, would you flip flop in and out of there in order to use in game comms to make contact with other players?

there is a team speak server but not totally dedicated to Elite.
don,t want to disappoint Kroy but this sounds good.

besides that over time there will be several I guess.

TeamSpeak servers are not free, though neither are they expensive. I have my own 20 slot server which costs around £4 per month, & that's fine for a small clan but I'm not sure how far that number of slots will go in a game like ED, especially if it's open to more than friends.
Any ideas on what the optimum server size might be ?

NO their is no need both will run teamspeak has a voice activation setting or you can use a key just for speaking most sound systems will let you hear both the game and any one talking to you . And one thing with a dedicated server for one game any one talking should only be talking about the same game . It will also be possible to set up small channels for group members or friends to chat in , but I do not like the idea of locking any channels even for a group of friends . But that may change if you are playing in ironman mode or if all the people using the teamspeak think it is a good idea to have locked channels for small groups .:D

I would just use Mumble since its actually free. Assuming you have broadband you can comfortably host all your friends using your gaming rig on an adhok basis. The windows binaries are easy to use and the overlay etc. works just as good as paid for TS.

Lots of alternate choices will exist. My Teamspeak3 server is free - neither the player or the Admins have to pay anything

Adults who value years of teamspeak admin experience will quickly realize the value of a list of simple requirements to keep the gaming atmosphere producing the highest quality audio for all.. for example there are just a few rules about noisy or bad sound drivers producing squealing, white noise or other issues must be fixed to remain on the channel with the gamers.. otherwise people will be moved to a tech support voice channel and given assistance to resolve the interference.

So, with that in mind, I also produced the guide that anyone with general forum access can read to better prepare themselves with.

And I do give access to other people to act as admins.. if you feel like checking it out, send me a forum PM -

Yes teamspeak is free but you need a server system to run it on or some one who has a fast server dedicated to run it with a fast connection that is stable even when the server is full .

The HARDWARE server I use, and am also an admin on, has 500 man capability.

But the Teamspeak3 server I use within that HARDWARE.. is separated from a number of other Teamspeak servers running on the same HARDWARE..

Mine will not be attempting to max out that capability, because then the other Teamspeak3 servers could become unstable.. and therefore I wont be publicizing the address in mass quantities..

We prefer to keep it normalized on the basis of giving it out to those who want to work together rather than for random public chaotic visitors who are unknown or irregular and unaccountable in any way to some basic rules..

It is running a number of Teamspeak3 servers for different groups - but you as a person joining in, will only see the server I am in and the channels for it, not the entire group of servers within the same HARDWARE cluster..

Sounds good, I'll have a look when I am back in the country - would appreciate the ability to occassionally have a smaller room for my allies eg on a particular mission without the wider chatter

Ok I am going to confirm with my friends and we should be setting up a dedicated teamspeak server just for Elite Dangerous . So every channel will be for players of Elite only .

I played Guild Wars 2 for about a year and our realm had its own dedicated Teamspeak3 server and it worked fantastically well

It was set up by the players and anyone could join. Basically speaking different teams from our server would be playing on different maps and needed to coordinate with each other, all u need to do in TS3 is open a new room for your team to keep every map seperate.

Ofc plenty of people just logged into TS3 for a chat and talk game stuff too :)

This is a great idea and it would be awesome to see ED officially use TS3 and build some game mechanics/architecture to accomodate it. Its a no-brainer to use an existing specialist product for in-game voicechat as opposed to creating your own right... everyone remembers just how dog-awful the ingame chat for Wow was right!

I am using Pirate Gaming with fragLANd.com

ts.tpoc.co.uk

The Elite channel is temporary and created at will in 'other games', it is public and free.

There maybe some live Twitch broadcasting too.

Yeah but mumble is open source and should provide an equal quality as TS, depending on the ingame UI. If it sounds like TS, has the same capabilities like TS, it would be superior as it's ingame. Just a question of dev ressources.

Just a quick note for the teamspeak all are welcome IP gamerscove.net
It now has no password . If you reply to the post that would help keep it so any one can find it , and we would have an idea how many group channels for players of Elite Dangerous we may need thank you .
