Teamspeak: the default VoIP client for Elite: Dangerous?

A general trend I've noticed is that most groups and events I've checked out use Teamspeak, which is surprising considering that in my experience I have come across more games where Mumble is used among us Europeans whilst Teamspeak is used by North Americans. Am I correct in assuming that Teamspeak is the default VoIP program for Elite: Dangerous? Is there any group that uses Mumble or, god forbid, Ventrilo? And how comes all of a sudden even Europeans are using Teamspeak as their preferred choice?

ED has it's own awesomely sounding but horribly unreliable to use built in VOIP for up to 6 people I believe. Out of game VOIP is just going to be better though.

Teamspeak is generally going to be used by groups anyway, has many more features, works when the ED servers are down, isn't limited by in game issues.

Mumble was pretty horrible the few times I've used it, Teamspeak is just better and the plugins I use for games (DCS, ArmA) are only for Teamspeak so far, so. :)

It might be b/c the space flight community has long been entrenched in Teamspeak. Every Freelancer group and the few that were still playing XWing vs Tie Figher (cheaters, all of you :D ) were using teamspeak...but that could just be due to my very narrow view of the internet

My friends and I use mumble for all our gaming chat. We switched from ventrilo a few years ago.

Mumble gave us better voice quality, a better client, proper linux support (I'm primarily linux at home and work), and is easier to keep up to date on my server.

Mumble here too. Have used Ventrilo and didn't think much of it, but that was maybe 10 years ago? Then Teamspeak, we rented a server for a while for only a few quid a month (In UK), it was ok but had some problems. Somebody suggested Mumble so I ran the server on my gaming PC for a while, voice quality is excellent. Got tired of having to remember to start the server before each gaming session, so installed it on a http://www.raspberrypi.org/ been up and running for over a year (2 years?) now. Only downtime when I pulled the wrong plug (fixed - start up the Pi now starts server), and my ISP has failed once or twice.

Only used for <10 people but works great.
