PSA

They just announced in the livestream that the Thargoid materials collected so far will NOT help for the upcoming CG next week so people should stop wasting time gathering them.

They may help in the future though.

The way Bruce worded that, the planned Thargoid sampling CG is not happening any time soon.
Guess that bug isn't getting attention after all.

Why not extend last week's CG so we can get more Starports built while you sort out this mess?
Also, why would there be a time limit on such a CG to begin with? They should go until either they're complete, or have a longer duration than a week.

Great news - Our Thargoid friends are spared the cruel massacre for a further week.

You think it's gonna take FDev only a week to fix the bug? I admire your optimism.

Does someone want to point me to a video for collecting samples or explain s l o w l y how to do it

thanks in advance.

  1. Get a medium or large ship. Stack shields; forget about resists and go for raw shield strength.
  2. Equip some AX multicannons or whatever guardian weaponry you prefer.
  3. Get a 7A universal multi-limpet controller for large ships (8 active limpets). Med ships should get a 3C xeno limpet controller (4 active limpets).
  4. Xeno scanner is required to identify the thargoid ship you will be sampling from.
  5. Equip corrosive resistant cargo racks (CRCS) + some regular cargo racks, ratio should be 1:1 since the success rate seem to vary from 40% to 50%. So if you have 2 C4 CRCS, you should add a C5 normal rack as well.
  6. Don't forget your limpets.
  7. Fly to system with an active thargoid presense (Astrope for me).
  8. Use FSS to look for a nearby threat level 3 or 4 non-human signal source (NHSS).
  9. Fly there. 4 pips to shields.
  10. Once you're in, you should see a few thargoid scouts. Threat 3 will have 2 scouts, 4 scouts in threat 4.
    • If you see two human ships, get out asap or 8 scouts will spawn and you're gonna have a bad time.
  11. Here's where your xeno scanner will come in handy. There are 4 variants of scouts, kill priority should be given to anything that's not a marauder.
  12. Keep 1 marauder alive.
  13. Once there's only 1 marauder left, target it and start deploying your research limpets. It has to be within 2km from your ship. Your limpets will chase after the scout and attach themselves to it. (more than 1 limpet can attach to a single scout).
  14. It takes a couple of minutes for the sampling process to complete. You will get a voice notification when it's done. Meanwhile the scout will stay close to you while tickling your shields with it's goid loogies.
  15. Deploy cargo hatch (can be done together with step 13). Your limpets will fly back to you with or without a tissue sample and will be discarded.
  16. Repeat step 13 until you run out of limpets.
  17. Thank the thargoid for being a good sport and kill it. That should cover the cost of your limpets and hull repair.
That's pretty much it.

Obviously it will be more practical if you have an FC to store the tissue samples.

Ha! Good point!
Looks like the Thargoids are safe for good.
