Turns like an iceberg, though. Be careful landing on medium to high gravity worlds.

I would've very much agreed, wouldn't that part be there. It actually turns quite fast, but it drifts crazily. So it's rather easy to keep an enemy in sights. Thanks to this and very compact hardpoint placement, it's one of the best ship, perhaps even -the- best ship for fielding fixed weapons.
.
But while it turns around like crazy, it makes drift racers look like on rails. The thrusters were improved at a later stage of the beta, but it just moved them from "abysmal" to "acceptable". So some maneuvers in this ship feel like you have FAOff, while actually still having it on, and yes, on high gravitation worlds you're better watch your ship closely.
.
The other drawaback of the ship is comparatively weak shields. They are not utterly bad, but for a ship of its size and pricetag, they are on the lower side. And while the ship on paper seems to be a reasonably good hulltank, once shields are down it feels like half of the ship is made of cockpit... better bring some good life support, you'll use it often.
.
So unless there were noticeable changes between the end of the beta and the last patch, the Chieftain is far from becoming the new "top dog" ship, but will have to settle for being one of several reasonably good combat ships. Despite all of this, i plan to get me one when it becomes available.
.
It might be a sidegrade to the FAS and be inferior to the FDL, but it's still a fun ride, with it's own touch. Also, i have several enforcer cannons in storage, this is the first ship where i can actually put them to good use and i can't resist the temptation...
