The demo didn't go so well, but the design is pretty radical looking.
Without a skeletal roll cage, the thick steel skin gives it rigidity, and creates more internal space.
It's the Gunship of trucks, I guess?

Wow, this literally hurt my eyes. This might be the ugliest thing I've seen in my entire life. And that presentation? I laughed so hard. What those people in a truck were wearing? Like full cast of a Matrix. Ridiculous.
You know, mixed feelings on Elon in general. When he's just using his money to pay people who actually know what they are doing everything is great. Like SpaceX. Thank goodness he's not actually involved with anything company is doing. Somehow this looks like something that could come out of his imagination.

It's not even remotely sustainable, but it's a pretty radical design. I remember seeing the much hyped Model S, thinking that it looked too much like any other car, considering that a classic petrol driven car can't have engines in the wheels etc. Seeing the Cybertruck, I have to admit that my first reaction was disgust, followed by denial, but now it's (slowly) starting to make sense. It's bold, but I've read quite a few positive reactions, so who knows. It's not sustainable though, and it still runs on electricity which is mostly (~60%) produced using fossil fuels.

I doubt that you'll be able to register one in the EU, due to the sharp edges which are bad for pedestrians. The bulletproof windows were as bad an idea as it's execution. Still, pretty cool thingy. How much does it weigh?

Am I the only one in love with the visuals of the design?

Even if it's not so good in execution elsewhere... But man I love looking at it.

I remember when the Ansari XPRIZE was supposed to bring "cheap" spaceflight. It was supposed to cost roughly "3 month of average salary" to get to see the Earth being round, and even though I knew it would be dangerous, I still wanted to go. More than 20 years later, it seems that it wasn't as easy building a cheap spaceship as was thought. The whole "going to Mars (soon)" idea is absurd, but as long as it's kept alive, it shows Elon as a "great visionary", allowing him to sell cars, which is what he does.

We need visionaries, and we need someone thinking out of the box, but making a 4x4 pickup truck, with "bulletproof" glass and a 0-60 in 2.9 seconds is roughly as far away from being what we need as anyone could possibly dream up, without including a bigblock V8. Saving the climate is not the only problem we face. We need to figure out a lifestyle that is sustainable, and that means not using more resources than nature can reproduce, and it certainly means not using more resources than necessary. A 4x4 pickup truck might be necessary in agriculture etc. but honestly most of them are used for going to work on public roads.

Don't get me wrong, I like Elon (and 4x4s), and I was not especially indignant when I saw him smoking with the cagefighter, but I do not share the delusion that Elon will save us all. Quite the contrary.

In all fairness I like this design, from a purely "expensive toy for grown-ups" point of view, but oh boy, NCAP will have a field day with this. 😅

The F-117 has a balanced look, partly because it has to fly.
This thing has the basic proportions so bad, that it will look ridiculous in the flesh. Also, it will be an NVH nightmare due to wind noise.

I'm all in to do something out of the box, but for God's sake, proportions have to be right!

Is this thing really a monocoque? Seems kinda silly for even a faux utility vehicle to need it's skin for structural integrity.

I envision some people being very surprised when damage whose repair would only involve hammering out a body panel on a standard auto totals their Cybertruck.

Monocoque still has body panels. It's just that it's frame integrated with a chassis. This thing...it looks like it's just panels stuck together on a chassis. I hope there are some competent people working on this, but to my taste this sounds like a horrible idea. I can't wait to see crash test results.
