Test Server and Cheap Lakon

If any Beta VR users who haven't been able to afford a Lakon and experience it in the Rift then get on the Test Server... Lakon Type 9 is only 100 credits.

P.S WOW!

Really? A Lakon 9 for 100 credits? Sounds too good to be true. Once the beta update had finished downloading I'll give it ago. I suspect though this will be fixed quickly. I'm happy with my ASP and about to get kitted with 10 mil for outfitting and go exploring, but would love to give the L9 a fly round the block. Although this dose seem like cheating but too tempting :D

edit: Just realised this is just a copy of the game on, as mentioned by cherburt, a test server. So I won't be cheating buying the L9 for 100c and I expect my ASP will be safe on the main server. I hope :S

I felt like I could actually walk around it

Same here. The first thing I did was to point the positional camera up a bit then stand up and turn around. WOW! This ship is huge. Many platforms with corridors leading off from them. So cool. Wish I could walk down them. Strange that the copilots are beneath you either side. The view from there must be a bit obscured. Anyway, great experience. Thanks for the heads up cherbert ;)

what are your impressions so for of the beta?

what are you setting the resolution to if you are using DSR and supersampling?

I got a heavily overclocked GTX970 will all textures on low, bloom, blur and AA is off, DSR is off, only Shadows on Medium with Oculus slider set at max and running at 1080p, but found that in some cases in this new Beta, the performance drops down into the 50fps range, this did it in a large system with far more NPCs and a few players showing, but found in other similar systems with just about as many NPC and players, the fps was fine, so its hard to say whats going on.

I have found that there is a lot more brief screen freezing going on when approaching the planets, but this appears to of started in 1.07 as well.

This new beta shows the correcting lighting from the HUD on the dash instead of the baked on orange blow from before, so that was a nice improvement, but I found the largest came from the Galaxy Map. The GM now is not effected by messing with the HUD colours, so things are easy to read and navigate, plus the performance appears to be greatly improved, as I was seeing a lot more stars being shown, but had no drop in fps unless I was in a Nebula.

Overall, 1.1 is looking good, but with the increase in allowing more NPCs and players to be in your instance, this does appear to at times have a large impact on fps.

Oh yea, and the T9 is awesome, huge cockpit and awesome view, but slow as balls, at least in stock form.

I just can't get over how amazing it is to dock the T9 in the Rift. I kept going in and out of the station just because it was such a mind blowing experience. Your visual and spacial awareness is so good that you can actually dock the thing without looking at your docking assist on the scanner.

Because of the expanded view out the front of your ship the scale of stuff is so much more pronounced. Approaching the station and other ships flying to left and right of you is incredibly immersive.

And there was I thinking everyone was buying T9s to stick up on blocks and gut them so they could buy other stuff... Never thought of actually flying the thing lol. Off I go to beta......

Beta 1.1 you can buy any ship for 100cr and you start with 100,000

WARNING

All other stuff costs more. I bought a T9 for 100cr, then go damaged and to repair it need 1,000,000cr

But you can test most ships

The latest build of 1.1 is a lot smoother. Even with a lot of player and NPC ships in the system, SC was running like a greased eel. Eevn the little stutters that have always been there when planet textures etc get loaded seem much reduced, so I don't know what they've done but I'm all in favour of it. The sound glitches that were in the first build have all gone too.

Tried out the Type 9. Holy mother of.. That thing is a beast. Looking back and seeing all those corridors branching off is just stunning. Handles like a barge though. With two more barges strapped to it.

I bought a Python yesterday for 100c. By far my favourite ship in VR.
like a bigger Cobra, awesome.

i can't help wonder if the people in the ED universe are defended from hobbits, the door at the back of the cabin is tiny.
