Tested Vive vs Oculus Rift in ED

No, but the vive has the same artefacts, and honestly more severe ones.
Unless you turn them off like you also can do with ASW.

I should hope not, given SteamVR has no ASW equivalent. ATW/Reprojection artefacts are quite different (EDIT: ...from ASW ones).

From the Pimax8K FAQ:

What are the positional tracking solutions?
Pimax 8K supports both outside-in tracking and inside-out tracking solutions. You can switch between different modes.

"Supports solutions". This implies: "comes with", does it?

The outside-in tracking is based on cutting edge laser tracking technology with minimal latency. Pimax offers PiTracking mode and Steam Compatible mode. With Steam COmpatible Mode, you can use all Valve accessories with Pimax 8K. The developing path of PiTracking is more flexible, and Pimax controllers are much lighter than vive controllers.

This suggests that Pimax's "Lighthouse" base stations use Pimax's own API, and interaction with SteamVR is through a compatibility layer. Anything else?

Pimax 8K enables inside-out tracking with modules.

"With modules". This implies such modules are included?

In addition, we will enable house-scale ( >50 sqm ) tracking with a new module.

Repeat.

No they aren't.

It's running on the same DirectX protocolls and driver paths for asynchronous processing.
The Oculus spacewarp seems honestly the more polished version of the two.

The Valve interpolation has pretty much the same artefacts, just with more stuttering and double vision in my experience.

Still WRONG: (Thanks for trying to put words in my mouth though...)

You said you will "NEED at least one Lighthouse". Thats simply not correct. Pimax8K is spec'ed to support multiple methods of tracking. You don't need ANY lighthouses if you opt to use the inside-out tracking module. They even offered a coupon for the inside-out module to backers a while ago...

ATW is, to grossly simplify things, just a matter of panning an old frame, to account for rotation - only rotation, and only of the user's head.

ASW is significantly more complex, and extrapolates a frame based on how bits of bitmap has moved around from the penultimate previous frame to the last, using the same analysis as video compression. Artefacts produced when you run into hard-to-determine cases, such as with repeating patterns, are quite distinct.

You don't need any lighthouses with "inside-out" tracking (as the Pimax8K will have)...

(Just like your "old" Samsung Odyssey had... ;-)

According to the 8k faq it’s not got it built in

I think that’s the leap module that allows for it. It’s an extra add-on

I happen to have the hand tracking module added to my pledge. Its optics should be tuned to a close range, small (...and consequently high resolution) volume, as far as I can tell, which would render it ineligible as a candidate for environment tracking. Have we been offered a different module? ...and can it be used simultaneously with the not-leap-motion, or does is use the same slot?

I’m going to check out Black Friday deals on the Vive. If I get one then that also gives me a set of V1 lighthouses that are compatible with the puck things.

Apparently the htc pucks wont work with v2 lighthouses

I'm sure they will have v2 pucks, but since the major difference between how the v2 lighthouses work and the v1's I would have a little ice.

I would not be surprised if they announce v2 versions of these real soon.
Although I'm just guessing.

You are correct. (Although "not-included" doesn't mean the module won't ultimately be installed inside the HMD). They also offered us a coupon for it at one point...
