Thargoid CG's - Time To Get Involved

I play mostly as a Pirate and live in the Independent edge of the galaxy where I gain no rank for my gameplay and am the butt if several unfixed bugs. I'm over two years in to ED and still only an Imperial serf. I have no loyalty to the major powers and could care less if their space is disrupted or their civilizations burn.

Ive previously posted criticism of the industrialised Cannon led destruction of barnacles while we have very little (zero) understanding of their life cycle. The Cannon call themselves scientists but whichever branch of science they practice it certainly isn't Ecology. (Xenocology?)

So for these reasons, I for one welcome our Insect overlords and refuse to engage in any war mongering which benefits only the established military / industrial order.

Anarchy is coming.

Yaarrrr.

So heres the choices gentlemen...either we go to what is reportedly one the most toxic CG ever and run the gauntlet with the kiddy brigade or...keep going on the road to Sag a in virtual tranquility at a very laid back and relaxed pace.

Decisions decisions...I genuinely want to see the bubble burn...what possible motivation would one have in trying to prevent that? Ive ignored the rngeers fer a whole year without suffering too much detriment...fairly sure ignoring the thargoids wont have the slightest effect on my game, but if they do wipe me out, then Ill take the hit on the chin and start again...no salt no tears.

See the thing is they already said the thargoid content will be optional...so whats the urgency from a non combat player point of view? 2.4 is all about combat...the entire update is all but meaningless and pointless to me.

Just about the only thing Im even remotely enthusiastic about is what they say at their expo...until then thanks but no thanks ^

The level of engagement with the Thargoid CG's is no more than usual, which is really surprising.

If you want defensive and offensive weapons to fight Thargoid on arrival, every player needs to get into the CG's and drive them to completion. It's also a great way of making a few million credits for relatively little work.

Anyone who does not participate has no right to moan or complain when they do get blown up because they had no way to stop them.

I prefer to play ED when I feel like it.
I cannot think of any reason that could force me to play any game.
I will buy anti Thargoid weaponry when it is available and when I think I need it.
I hope the aliens do not attack ships that are not hostile towards them.
If so I might never get into a fight with them ever. I love insects :) and I do not fight other people's wars.
I do not mind them taking over a few human systems. Might be a good opportunity for trade.

I am currently having fun with "Dishonored: Death of the outsider".
I am in love with the Dishonored games.
And I have several other games cued too.

I'd say the involvement is lower than usual.
It's not even difficult; resonator separators from Merope (Reed's Rest) single jump to Maia are netting me nearly 1.3 million credit profit per run (672t).

Spent the weekened in my trade cutter doing both CG's whch have already succeeded to the point of all being available to horizons owners , dunno how the original elite owners will fair with the thargs but thats on tham for playing on the cheap.

Although thats all the time i can afford till i get off work on wednesday when i imagine the CG will be over.

Delivered 14-15K to both Cgs would of delivered more but have mining contracts to complete for clients
If None horizons players want to see if they can buy the new moduals from space stations they have to haul cargo to get higher tiers

Ironic thing is (on the assumption that it'll be up to us to provoke hostilities), it'll probably be the same people who aren't interested in the CGs that'll be first in line to buy the weapons and end up starting the war.

maybe we've ALL screwed-up by actually participating in these CGs? :O

It's a terribly designed set of CGs.

Should've been one for generic commodities, the other for Thargoid salvage. That or contributions of Thargoid salvage should count for 20 times that of the generic cargo to make up for the difficulty and time it takes to collect.

Pass.

CG = meh

Especially at this point.

This. Though I admittedly haven't been in-game in about a week, and then only for a few hours, I find CGs to be uninspired content.

I haven't checked, but... let me guess... we're supposed to go fetch something and bring it back to a space station, yeah?

Only the people who think it's smart to throw missiles at Thargoids without the disable countermeasure will count as initiating hostilities (and probably get written off as silly by the Thagoids).

I'll be floating by and wave a scanner at them, nothing hostile. Just hope it's using an utility slot or I'll be having fitting issues.

Completely uninterested.
Now, if there's something deeper than pewpew WRT to thargoid interaction, that would be fine.

The UP disables your ship when scanned. Trader NPC deploy hardpoints when scanned.

What do you think a fully operational death star Thargoid will do?

Wish they stuck to the original elite consept back when I played it on my old trusty c64 and left out the PVP all togeather, why try and fix a consept that works to that which sparks so much salt. only solo or mobius for me , I am fed up with grinding for yet another upgrade, Ill take my chances with the goids :)

Sadly I'm in the <bleep>-middle of nowhere and Frontier aren't rolling out the route plotting range increases until 2.4, So don't really fancy plotting the entire way back 100LY as a time just to do a CG.

That said, why would I want to stop the Thargoids when they haven't shown any proactively hostile behaviour other than "Fire back at the crazy human extremist trying to kill me right now just because I'm not Human."?

2.4 seems to be mostly combat content with not much for non-combat players (barring any surprises), so yeah my will to play really hasn't been rekindled. Helping out a CG to unlock yet more weapons and such feels so tired by now, Elite's just too focused on combat and it really doesn't interest me. I am happy for all of the combat players and I hope you all enjoy the snot out of 2.4, but I've yet to see anything that would excite a player like me?

Now, if there was a CG to unlock a new discovery scanner which would grant us heatmaps for planet surfaces revealing POI's and search zones for things to discover, you can bet my mortgage I'd be playing every waking moment I could spare to help out the cause! But yet more weapons to shoot at yet more things in the game? Not so much.

If I were an explorer I'd want protection against aliens.

Oh wait, I am an explorer and did contribute to the CG. :p

I've done 5000+ tons for the Palin GC to get the scanner. Not really interested in anti Thargoid weapons, so will be delivering 0 tons for Ryder's weapon development.

Seems the mood is that the utility kit (anti EMP) maybe useful for explorers, which accounts for about 30% of the community but I'm not seeing that reflected in the progression of the two CGs. Both are fairly close. I've dropped off 10kT at both even though I'm indifferent at the prospect of shooting at the Goids. I'm presuming that this is true for many players?

I think it is our turn to probe the aliens. That is what I want to do. Probe them with as many things as possible: scanners, munitions, those snake cameras they use during colonoscopies....You know, the classic probing stuff.

The point of the post being: "Time to get involved."

Why?

Not becouse we love CG's so much maybe. But becouse the higher the result of the CG the less fuss we will have later on, equipping useful stuff for Alien Interaction. It's simple.

Finally a CG that actually matters, and then there is less interest as with a generic bountyhunter CG in a gerneric place.

:(

Everyone in the bubble should get the chance to be interdicted by the Thargoids, run, fight, live or be destroyed. Without the thargoids to bring dread to Elite, in any mode, It isn't Elite.
Open mode with the pew pew noobs is not elite
