Thargoid Interactions

Yesterday I had my first interaction with Thargoids. It went badly for me and I barely escaped. I learned some valuable lessons too. Fixed AX missiles are much better for this combat as well as beams and MC for the Thargoids conventional shields

I spent some time searching the non human USS all with damaged Imperial Cutters in them drifting in green mist. The variations were 1 or 2 Thargoid ships or no Thargoid ships and just Scoop the items lying around.

My last experience before I flew back to my home base was being Hyperdicted by 2 Thargoids. Went peacefully tho.

Second Thargoid Jumping in

Last saturday i decided to take some Meta-Alloys a Thargoid to see its reaction (I bought 10) I Arived at the Non-HumanSS, and let the Thargoid Scan me, it really wanted what was in my hold so i dropped the Alloys. It took one and made a really odd noise (i've been carfully studying their noises since i had my first encouter) and it sounded like a call for help, not as if it was in pain or being attacked. More like i need help doing something could you come here. A frame shift anomaly occured close after and i saw a series of black cracks (I have watched the way the Thargoids jump away and to me, it looks like they're ripping a hole in something) then the thargoid exiting what looked to be witch space. It flew in and activated its shutdown pulse (it looks like they can only use their shutdown pulse after they've exited witch space, as if it takes energy from jumping and exerts it), i got a perfect view of the second thargoid taking some of the Meta-Alloys (it looked like a darker version of the first one) then jumped away. The other then continued scanning the wreckage for escape pods and other items. (if it means anything they both had two different head symbols)

My first encounter was in a Type 6 on day 1 with some occupied escape pods and Meta-Alloys on-board before I bought the new Xeno Scanner. The Thargoid scanned me, seemed to wait a few seconds before "deploying hardpoints" and ejecting a swarm. I thought I was doomed, so I hit full reverse and it started to follow me, but not at the top speed I've seen reported. I actually started to gain some space between us and at some distance it stopped following me and returned to the wreckage area and started to scan and collect the objects it wanted.

After I bought the new scanner and returned in my AspX I had about three more encounters in the NHSS's before I harvested some Meta-Alloys, and they were all peaceful with both of us doing our mutual scans and then me backing off and observing. I saw all the new stats in the "Encounters" section with the absence of the "Imprint" value.

I finally got back to the area and harvested some MA's and decided to try and see if using Silent Running would have any effect against the EMP of the second Thargoid when dropping 5 MA's. Before dropping in I disabled:
4 Pulse Lasers
2 Cannons
Frameshift Wake Scanner
Fuel Scoop
Chaff Launcher
Vehicle Hanger

I then dropped in and we had the usual mutual scan, then I dropped 5 MA's before backing off. As soon as Betty said "Frameshift anomaly detected" I activated silent running. I tried to launch a heatsink, but was shut down by the EMP before it launched. The second Thargoid nosed around and scanned for a few seconds before they both jumped out. I then checked the stats and the "Imprint" entry was now showing up with a value of 15.

This is probably not related, but when my ship came back online all the modules that I turned off except the fuel scoop were switched on again.

The next encounter I only dropped 2 MA's, but the Imprint value didn't increase.

I then tried 4 MA's at the next and thought I'd steal an occupied escape pod while the Thargoid was busy and see what the reaction was. After dropping the MA's I got a little too close while moving toward the pod and it turned red and deployed a swarm, I had my back to it then and was expecting to get attacked while I used a collector limpet to grab a pod, but I must have got out of it's space since as soon as the limpet was aboard I moved further away (~2.5km) before turning around to observe it. Maybe it was the angle I was viewing it at, but it almost looked like it was agitated while it scanned the remaining items. I could have been an animation quirk, but it looked like it was moving rapidly up and down, maybe 10m or so once or twice per second, not suddenly, just moving rapidly, almost like it was bouncing. There was no change to the Imprint value after giving away these 4 MA's either.

I'm currently out of MA's, but it looks like 5 MA's and the second Thargoid jumping in might increment the "Imprint" stat. As for what that means is anyone's guess for now.

After visiting the destroyed megaships, Majestic-Class interdictors and the Farragut cruiser.... I don't think I am the only one who thinks that the Thargoid Interceptors we are finding now are NOT the ones that destroyed those ships. Am I?

Did you visit a Thargoid Structure at some point? It's known that you get Thargoid Imprints by scanning the Uplink Devices.

Thats it! Point! 100% agree

I visited an active site and scanned all the uplink devices before 2.4 and on day 1 of 2.4 I visited an inactive site to collect MA's and scanned all the uplink's there, so for me at least the "Thargoid Imprint" only showed up after giving them 5 MA's. Prior to my first NHSS, I never had any interactions of any kind with the Thargoids, never had been hyperdicted nor saw one at at barnacle site.

So apparently Thargoid Interceptors are NOT interested in scooping the following canisters:

Thargoid Resin
Thargoid Technology Samples
Thargoid Biological Matter

I tried, in three separate NHSS, to gift these items to the Thargoid Interceptor, but it would not take them. All it did was examine one of them with its green tendrils, then turn around and scan other stuff in the scene. I am surprised since they always pick up a TP, TL, and TS.

That's an interesting development and it's something you can easily reproduce. Just take a screenshot of your imprints, then grab 5 MAs, give it to them, and see if the imprint count increases again.

You may be interested on the action area of the Thargoids so far.

The image is centered on Merope. Each point represents one or more alien activity reports (blue for one, green or red for more, can't remember the numbers). The lines represente reported hyperdictions. The blue sphere is the UA Shell, an area of 150LY around Merope (where the Unknown ARtifacts used to spawn originally).

The thargoid intercepters do not carry weaponry that causes toxic corrosion, i honestly beleive that these ships were destroyed from carrying thargoid items and the thargoids are just trying to find the items that were indeed STOLEN by the federation/empire. (not saying the thargoids are in the right because i have been attacked for trying to give them a thargoid probe before)

Thats quite interesting, maybe they're only interested in thargoid items that are extremely important.

Thargoid Intercepters do carry Caustic Missiles which do cause ongoing caustic damage

What do the different colours mean?

Also is the big shaded circle the thargoid sensor sphere, or something else?

Well, right, should have added some explanations.

Thanks :) That clears it up.

There are a couple of dots close to Sol...are those Thargoid interactions?

From the one time i've been attacked, the missiles did not produce a toxic green cloud, yes they do cause caustic corosion, but not to the extent that these ships have experienced. The gas is the same gas that is; Produced when a Thargoid dies and when one frameshifts away.

EDIT: The Markings caused by the corrosion are most definately not caused by Thargoid weapons fire, i didnt see any of those markings on my ship when a missile hit me. I did indeed take caustic damage but it was for 2 seconds.

Seeing a Thargoid Cyclops cause the same damage with glowing green and smoke on a CMDRs ship is really what I'm looking for. The smoking gun, in both literal and figurative terms.

Either that, or I drop into a Non-Human Signal and see the Cyclops blasting the shipwrecks, not just looking at them.

I saw a thargoid open a portal but not go into it.

Also it seemed to run out of ammo for its projectile weapon.

Lastly, it kept honking. Non stop.

All three were behaviors I'd never seen before. I do have video as well.
