Thargoid Non-Aggression Pact!

jrD64k1.png

I have decided that, until evidence is supplied to confirm they are aggressive and an enemy, that I shall refrain from engaging Thargoid ships. I don't believe they are the enemy and I firmly believe we are still waiting to find out who the green corrosive sneezing aliens are - as THEY seem to be the aggressors. We've yet to actually witness a Thargoid destroying anything unprovoked.

Peace to our alien buggy friends.

What if they engage you first? What's the stance on self defence?

Right now, there is no evidence to support them firing first. Hyperdiction is the same as an interdiction, and they've not just opened fire on anyone yet - there's always been a warning or action taken on our part.

If someone can provide video evidence of a Thargoid blatantly opening fire on us.. I may change my stance. However.. that's not happened yet.

Don't wanna burst your bubble or anything, but if i'm on a packed tube train the person next to me dosent give me a 30 second warning to move before punching me in the face until i'm dead as that would be considered unprovoked. Given this is exactly what the Thargoid did yesterday when i was 900m away i'd say unprovoked attacks are pretty rife with the Aliens :).

Further more yesterday myself (and there are videos of several others) who have been hyperdicted and shot at before the ship even reboots by 3 Thargoids...sounds pretty unprovoked to me.

I've been shot at twice and I haven't fired a shot at them

I did have a thargoid probe and link in my cargo hold on one of those occasions, but both times I was stationary and had them targeted for scanning
So unless that's seen as provocation, I think it's right to assume SOME are hostile

I´m standing with you on this cmdr Kaltern! I don´t even have any weapons on my ASP Explorer :)
I´m thinking that if this is phase one in the on-going update and that the dev´s has said that the way we react against the Thargoid will decide how the next updates will pan out. Now everybody´s trying to blast them to pieces and maybe this will lead to an out right war next update...

I was fired on first today after picking up a damaged escape pod in a USS.

I suggest that you flew too close to the lead ship, and it triggered it's self-defense modes - however I don't think you got much of a choice - IMO that might be unintended behaviour. OR, you were carrying something it didn't like, perhaps a Guardian Relic or something else.

So was I. I suspect maybe they thought we were interfering with them, and they classed that as an aggressive move - they are very twitchy I've noticed (and I'm not 100% sure that's intended gameplay behaviour).

I would be very interested, and appreciative, if others would be willing to share videos of what they would consider to be Thargoids attacking first?

I disagree, they obviously like their own space, and if you get too close, they'll consider that a hostile act. They're bigger than us.. they are currently invulnerable, so we need to do what's needed to not provoke them into defending themselves.

I've reason to believe that future conflicts will be devastating. I'd support peaceful measures any day.

Buuuuuut....I want to see how mean their tactics will get in the future, too. I'll continue a...scientific stance. Yeah, scientific. :3

Lol your making some pretty nitpicky excuses on their behalf here! If murders had your level of defence on their side right now jail would be a pretty empty place :p.

My cargo hold was empty btw.

They are quite obviously hostile, just powerful enough to know they don't need to kill what isn't a threat as its a waste of time.

They are after our pilots - they will always scoop escape pods before all others - everytime I come in with escape pods already onboard they always go hostile - with other junk I can usually scavenge without aggro. If they see me scoop an escape pod - they go hostile.
I'm going to keep rescuing escape pods and will disable or destroy any Thargoids who get in my way if I can.

Nothing nitpicky about it - they don't KOS, they don't immediately throw their entire arsenal at you when you appear, and they ignore you if you leave them alone. The ONLY time I've seen attacks is if they're provoked in some way, be it an accidental ramming, or just flying into their personal space - they're both things they don't like, and we should respect. I've yet to see one fly up to you , scan you and them decide it doesn't like you and open fire - there is ALWAYS a reason they've attacked.

Thargoids are hostile. They fire at human ships without getting attacked first.

Just imagine the Thargoids being humans. Their behavior would be considered hostile by almost every other human in the galaxy.

Sure, they are aliens. We should be cautious and maybe not try to escalate the situation by returning fire - especially since it's completely useless.

In my opinion the Thargoids are hostile.

… there is ALWAYS a reason they've attacked.

That there might be always a reason for the attack doesn't make the attack less hostile.

A fair point. Although I know some thargoids have engagef without provocation, this has been in hyperdictions only thus far. Havent seen a hostile Thargoid myself yet but I'll treat them with caution and respect. I prefer peaceful coexistance anyway.
