Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer: Insights

O7 Commanders,
I've been getting a number of questions about the new Thargoid Pulse Neutralizer prompting me to set up this space for discussion.
For those who like vides here is a link where you can listen and watch what is presently known about the Pulse Neutralizer.

As to what we know now, the pulse neutralizer is a variant of the shutdown field neutralizer in that it will negate the shutdown field, but is intended for the mealstrom’s core.
As of filming, the pulse neutralizer can be purchased from rescue mega-ships. An example is the mega-ship Federal Haven in the Altair system.
Each pulse neutralizer will cost, 1 unclassified relic, 5 massive energy surge analytics, 5 Propulsion elements, and 5 Sensor fragments.

The pulse neutralizer has a mass of 3.0 Tons with 70 points of integrity.
It operates on 0.4 MW of energy from the power plant and consumes 0.33 MW of power nominally.
Each activation has a charge time of two seconds, a range of zero meters, and a cooldown of 10 seconds.

The pulse neutralizer cannot be engineered, but it can benefit from engineering. Commanders should note that preliminary testing has shown the pulse neutralizer to consumers their capacitance at a rate of 5.38 MW/s or over twice as fast as a shutdown field neutralizer.

Pro-tip, commanders seeking a longer pulse time may want to engineer their power distributors with system-focused engineering and cluster capacitors.

What do you guys think of the data and my thoughts so far?

it is not that complicated, it does work - it did right away for me. Make sure your system capacitor is full, and put four pips to sys. Once fired, you need to hold the hotkey or fire button assigned to the pulse neutralizer (it uses the same hotkey as the SFN).

I timed it this way: You can see and hear when the pulse is about to build up - you hear rumble, and a cyan glow appears in the red cloud. This is where I prepare for the pulse (see above). I waited for the big "bonnnng" and the release of the pulse, and fired the neutralizer when I saw the wave moving towards me. So far, worked every time. Just don't forget to hold the button. Engineering helps, I was there in a Mamba with a G5 charge enhanced / super caps distributor. But I admit there is little margin for error, especially if you dare to go unengineered.

Useful enough. While I already made my first Maelstrom dive, additional info is always good.

I went in largely blind since I didn’t wish to be spoiled. Had no idea what the timing necessary would be, purely going off of visual and audible cues, but somehow, I pulled it off on the first attempt. Could’ve sworn my ship was getting ripped apart passing through that wave, though.

Same for me. I stayed off the internet from the moment the update was rolled out and went in completely blind (in every sense :)). Worked for me first time just by, as you said, visual and audio cues.

Also, while getting closer, I got two pulses; the first one as expected, and the second one a few kilometers further in. Is that the same for everyone everytime, or does it vary?

I definitely had two pulses myself too, but I thought the second one was down to me just completely losing any sense of orientation once I got through the wave, and not getting far enough in time to avoid it.

Second pulse also didn’t shake my ship or put extreme thermal load on it.

Yes I noticed a secondary pulse on two trips in I have made.

Pretty much exactly what I did. On my first venture in to the center I had to push through 3 consecutive pulse waves and this technique worked perfectly every time. The only other thing I'd say (although not directly related to the PWN) is that pushing through the wave generates a LOT of heat. After the first two I popped a heat sink which I suspect may have saved me from serious overheating problems on the third wave.

Same for me. Second one didn't super heat me.

Ditto, heat on first wave only, 2 waves. I tried boosting my way through to see if I could get there before the second wave but at 560m/s I still got hit with a second wave.

Is the new field neutralizer superior or inferior to the old neutralizer with respect to Thargoid surface installation combat?

i.e. is it worth getting smaked by the wave in a maelstrom 5 time to pick one up?

It's worth noting, the second wave doesn't actually repel you at all. I'm not sure what it does tbh but you don't need to activate the pulse neutraliser to avoid it.

Same here. I would have got it right first time if not for the fact that I was already at 28% hull (don't ask :D ) and in all the stress I confused Fire 1 and Fire 2 and kept releasing my causting sink, thinking why am I getting repulsed :D Luckily it was a live stream and my viewers are much more perceptive than I am LOL, so they noticed what's going on.

Once I was pressing the correct button it worked like a charm!

Better safe than to be sorry. And that thing called immersion.
Oh... what i was more hinting at is "it's not the same", which makes it a curiosity.

Same as the "big blue" pulse it does in the center. I've heard some conflicting accounts as to what causes it, and my own first hand evidence... but I've heard some suggest it's just the same wave that hits us on the way in... but no... not sure it is that either.

I've left the Maelstrom twice (both times under heavy encouragement from Thargoid ships). The first time I let the single pulse push me to escape faster. The second time I tried using the pulse neutralizer but got bounced and spun anyway.

Didn't have any trouble on the way in with the neutralizer.

Does it work fine for other people on the way out? ie, did I just balls up the timing while leaving the second time?
