Newcomer / Intro Thargoid weapons advice

Hi guys. Not exactly new to Elite but new to the forum so hello.
A friend and I are trying to kill a thargoid just for the hell of it but we're struggling a little so here I am for some advice.
I'm currently flying a type 10 (semi engineered) and I'm struggling with ax weapon choices. Currently I have 2 x fixed large missiles and 2 x large turreted multis. I can reveal the heart pretty quickly but then my multis aren't doing enough damage. The type 10 is a bit of a pig to keep on target (and I'll openly admit I'm not the best pilot) so I thought turreted would be a wise choice but now I'm not so sure. I'm going out with fixed tonight to try that. I wondered if anyone had any helpful advice in this area?
I also notice the thargoid puts up a shield after the first heart is dead. Any advice on weapons to get those down would be much appreciated.

Do you use a symertrical or an asymetrical weapon loadout? For the Type 10 its quite a big difference against the hearts.
