Wasnt there something similar on the US coast not to long ago? I think it turned out to be a sub test firing a missile for some kind of exercise.

It looked like a rocket to me, and was verified by another video of the same event where the exhaust was clearly visible. The only mystery here is why people have such poor visual recognition skills.
