Thargoids......Just run!!

yep same here. I was in my Corvette and was able to exchange fire for about 10 minutes, but I never got the impression I was dealing any damage. decided to leave when my sheilds were down to 20% and hull @ 35%.

Needed some indicator that I was doing damage to continue that course of action. I'm not suicidal with my pet pilot in tow.

Yes, not knowing if I was damaging them was disconcerting. Might fight them again tomorrow.

I've had multiple different interactions so far.

First one I had a thargoid link, probe, and sensor in my hold...

I immediately dropped them as a Thargoid began moving towards me with un-nerving speed.

I thne honked my disco scanner to make the probe give out it's pulse, which messed up my systems, so I was un-sure if I was being shut down by the thargoid itself. It begun scanning me, but then turned away and scanned the objects I dropped.

Then it started to collect them.

While it was collecting the link and the sensor, I managed to grab the probe, then I legged it, as a bunch of tharglets were released from the main ship and begun spinning around it.

The next time, I tried to ... hide... behind a destroyed imperial cutter hull, which slowed down the Thargoids attempts to scan me.

Once it had completed it's scan though, it turned a pretty scary shaed of red, released a bunch of thargon drones, and I began retreating backwards.

The drones gave chase shoointg me seemingly ignoring my shields, but not doing a huge amount of damage to my barely engineered Cobra Mk4.

I was able to escape pretty easily.

Another encounter the Thargoid didn't even move towards me, just picked up an occupied escape pod which was floating near a dead imperial vessel, and activated it's hyper drive. I scanned it's wake and left...

Entered another None Human Signal Source [Threat 5] to find no Thargoid at all, just several utterly crushed Federal vessels, various military items, and black boxes, and also, a Thargoid Sensor (which was nice, as a previous thargoid had taken mine in... tribute previously)

So there is some variance in what occurs for sure.

Decided to have a quick look at a Non-Human USS in a DBX. Thargoid scanned me, saw me a no threat and then went about its business scanning everything else. Hung around for about a minute capturing some video when the Thargoid turned red and boom....4C Bi-Weave shields wiped out in seconds down to 46% hull straight after that. Tried running but the ship can fire at 5km. It didn't use the Thargons either, used some other scatter type weapon. Few seconds later ship gone. Glad I didn't take the Anaconda. Going to analyse the video for some hints.

Good luck out there commanders. You're going to need it.

Are you watching the new Star Trek Discovery TV show? do the same than they with the klingons, if you find a thargoid: SHOOT FIRST to the neck!

This is worrying, I had hoped they'd leave you alone of you posed no threat.
Sounds like we're at war. Not what I had hoped.
Same, I wasn't looking for fluffy aliens, just ones that didn't see us as a threat until we actually posed one, then we get hammered into the seventh level of hell known as the rebuy screen, I had hoped for some to be straight up aggressive and some that only became that way if you did something like deploy weapons.

This appears to be what happens, from my experience so far.

I've run into one so far. It scanned me, but was not hostile... at first. However, when I stayed close (not intentional, I was checking for salvage) it launched its drones and turned red. I backed off quick. It left it's drones out, but the red color faded, and it went back to collecting whatever it was after.

Bottom line: At best, these aliens are no less hostile that Superpower Capital ships - you get to close, and they go hot. And this is best case scenario.

Here is the video I took. You can clearly see the Thargoid get angry when I don't back off after it scanned me - deploying drones then turning red. It stands down when I back off.

As mentioned in another thread, they are ignoring the other salvage and focusing on escape pods. I was able to save the one in this video. I saved a damaged one in another encounter (didn't film that, oops) and the Thargoid was NOT happy about it. It didn't attack, since I kept distance, but it came right for me/the pod and I had drones around me when I scooped.

The way they jump out is awesome. Has anyone tried to follow them through the rift? I tried but my T7 just ain't fast enough to keep the pace.

As others have said, i dropped into 2 USS (of which there are A LOT in the Maia zone) both times they turned towards me, scanned me, then went back to collect some salvage from the imperial wreckages. It sure looks like they're searching for something. Took all the survivors (escape pods), who knows what happened to the poor chaps by now, then jumped.

They also don't mind if you are an armed ship. I was in my anaconda and didn't deploy my weapons when it approached and scanned me so I was fine. It pretty much ignored me after the scan as long as I didn't get too close.

They appear to leave you alone if you offer no threat to them. Even when they hurl their green tentacles at you, if you just sit quiet and absorb the display, they back away and do what they were doing to the damaged ships. The 'goid uses hardpoints to project that familiar green column we saw at the barnacles to 'suck' something out of the damaged ship and then an item of cargo appears ready to be scooped up.

Then it clears off and hyperwakes out.

The cargo so far that I've scooped is scientific research, scientific sample, prototype tech (illegal) and reactive armor. All has a Palin type of flavor to it. They don't like the research, I guess, and where it's heading.

The next phase may not be so simple.

My fear all along (though "fear" is probably not the correct word) is that in order to make Thargoids dangerous they had to be totally opt in/out, and that meant CZ's & USS's, and perhaps the hyperdictions limited to carrying a certain kind of cargo. This really doesn't sound like the grand invasion and free wheeling gameplay some of us were keeping our fingers crossed for.

Dont worry. They already hyperdict cmdrs and open fire if they dont like what their scan tells them. It is not what you feared.

I tried salvaging all this stuff lying aroung in those USS. In fact, you must be quick, but the Thargoids turn hostile only after some time. So that's basically combat scooping and then high waking (those ships have an impressive mass lock factor). As soon as they turn red, you're dead meat.

perhaps another variant? I noticed one that hyperdicted me didn't even scan me...perhaps some have drones and others just offensives

Hyperdicted last night by 3 of them, they turned hostile and engaged me before my ship even rebooted. Still got out with minimal damage; can they please be buffed FD? One goid should be able to take down a top tier fully engineered vet in 30 seconds let alone a poorly equipped Anaconda surviving 3 of them.

I hope soon they are not just restricted to USS and are encounter-able outside stations etc.

Nice to finally see a goid :).

I on the other hand think they could be buffed somewhat. Managed to survive 2 minute beating while my FSD spooled up in a very poorly equipped Annie.

Cmon FD make them DANGEROUS! :).

Yeah they need to be buffed, they didn't kill me yet, however I didn't try to shot at them I just circled around them in my sport cobra. But they were angry and red...

Not a fan of the new trek...

There.... i said it.

Don't get me started on that ^%!#$&# show.
