Thargoids, Scouts, and where to find them? (Unless they're gone?)

You'll have to forgive me for some dumb questions I'm about to ask, but I've never involved myself in this area of the game. It's kind of the one thing I haven't done.

I've always been terrified to go after Thargoids because of the handful of times that they pulled me out of hyperspace and almost wrecked my ship. A couple months ago I decided to start working on a AX ship. I got myself a Chieftain and engineered it for Thargoid battle according to some information I found.

Anyway, my plan was to go after Scouts to start with, but while I was engineering, I kept seeing news that the 'goids were vanishing. So, here I am with an AX ship and seemingly no Thargoids to fight, or at least none that I can find. I guess what it boils down to is one question: what do I do now? Furthermore though, are there are Thargoids left? Scouts? Anything? Or is the war over?

I'd appreciate any advice on this, because I just want to do something new in this game. Thanks!

Try going to asterope system , has a bunch of non human signals , go for some low level ones , google the different levels will tell you what to expect, see an intercepter just run away.

Whe I first tried thargoid combat I took a krait with turreted ax multi’s till I got a handle on what they did and how to avoid the caustic clouds they emit when killed, but now they have caustic sinks to help with that now, didn’t when I first tried . At the time couldn’t get handle on silent running to run hot and burn caustic off.

Think down to earth astrometry has a krait turreted build to try out first. I couldn’t get hang of a chieftain but krait felt better to me personally. Just give it a go , expect to do a few rebuys to learn , all the youtube vids make it look easy but you just need to dive in and try it.
