That crap your pants moment...

Pulling 90 tonnes of freight one jump in my FGS for a mission delivery. Y'know, enough freight that I needed to leave my fighter behind. The supercruise leg is 290K ls, so lots of time for 'friends' to invite me to stop for 'tea'. First deadly conda caught me pretty quick; I submitted and had some fun with him. Maybe too much fun, truth be told, since he left in pieces and I waltzed off with 33% hull and a breached canopy...

Of course, then comes the message. 'Watch out, there's more.' No lie, that, since there's now an elite conda barrelling towards me like a steamroller made of lasers.

The next fifteen minutes looked like this:

So, elite buddy eventually caught up. I managed to break the interdiction, thank god. Another conda then shows up and spouts the 'I've come a long way' line. By now I've lined up on the planet and dived into glide -- almost there! -- so I figure I can take a moment and resupply my dwindling life support. In doing so, I forgot to put an extra pip into systems and left my thrusters a bit on the underpowered side. That was the cause; the effect was pancaking an overloaded FGS into the planet's surface about 5k from the target. BAM. Gave my shields a hell of a knock, but they held, hallelujah! No more adventure for the night please, that's enough! I tucked my tail between my legs, limped through the no-fire zone, and laid down on the pad. Very very carefully...

I love it! Most intense moment I've had in any game in years! MOAR NEAR-DEATH!!

For me, it's that moment when you arrive in a CZ, flying a god-ship that can crush NPCs like insects, you see the all the targets in front of you, you dive into the middle of the battle, knowing your enemies will fall like corn to a scythe...

...and then you deploy your hardpoints, you lose your shield and your ship goes dead in the water, surrounded by enemies, because you've left your AFMS on priority 1 after using it the last time you were flying this ship. 😖

My god, it sounds like the game just wanted you dead and was willing to throw everything and the kitchen sink at you to do it. Good show on surviving all of that. Fortunately for me, when I haul a lot of stuff it's in my Type 10 and THAT tub chews through Annies like they were mint chocolates.

Ha ha! I did something similar after a bit of engineering that up the power needs for my guns without checking the right-hand panel.

There's a less know, faster way to do the Fed rank grind where you run cargo between two systems and you NEED to have a Cutter to do it because you get interdicted by elite Anacondas, one after another. I used a pretty solid build on my Cutter but even I struggled at times because I had no chance to repair between interdictions.

I've got multiple, but tbh... hyperdictions still make me panic... just that they're so outside the norm, and most of the time if I'm in that region, it's because i need thargoid stuff, so it's a mad panic to remember what ship I'm on, and where it's ax field generator is fit.

FA off, boost away, problem solved with no SDFN required👍

I think the only true bowel loosening moments I've had was when I owned two Corvettes that I enjoyed experimenting with different builds- one was really lightweight and 'fast', the other a shieldless, tungsten ingot.

(This was with engineers v1 mind)- Corvette 1: my aim was to make it go faster than 400m/s in boost and 300m/s in cruise. To get there I had to make it really lightweight- 4A OC powerplant, 4T tank, undersized distributor- you name it. To jump anywhere on the tiny FSD I had to prime jumponium and like Eric Brown / Chuck Yeager I went out into the void....I have never been so scared of everything since I was flying about in a giant D rated coffin with the hull integrity of an egg sandwich.

The other Corvette I made into a ATR fighting hulltank. I was very smug, I thought I was like some muscular colossus flying about in my lime green killing machine- except for the very first ATR shot smashing my distributor. Scrambled, my ship was like my wife clothes shopping, trying on everything and not making its mind up. Resets all over the place, all the time more ATR appearing and me limping away.

Oh evading is no issue, even if i fluff it and get zapped by the emp... still makes me pack it cos i just forget it's a thing.

The ~20s cooldown you get between a goid finishing the scan and it attacking (grace period to drop the cargo) is plenty for the systems to come back online
