that crime system..

So I have to do all this just because I accidentally shot a 'wanted' NPC before finishing the scan? It was only a 600 credit fine. I can't pay it off in the same jurisdiction? I have to find an interstellar factor thingy? This is too much for a misdemeanour...

Just how much did you "accidentally shoot" them? If it was just as tickle, then you ought to have gotten a fine, not a bounty. But, if you were heavy handed you will get a bounty and all that goes with it.

Friendly Fire and Reckless Weapons Discharge

• The tolerance for friendly fire has been increased - you can deal more damage before you gain the assault crime.
• A new crime has been added "Reckless weapons discharge", which triggers at the old friendly fire threshold, and is only a fine.

These changes reflect the potential increased consequence for a bounty, allowing more leeway before one is issued.

This crime and punishment system is either an example of ineptitude on FDev's part, or gleeful, sociopathic cruelty. I'm still trying to decide which.

In either case, it is utterly unacceptable.

They say the FF damage threshold was increased, but they don't say by how much. Some weapons put out an awful lot of damage, before this update it was common for a single discharge from an engineered high-alpha weapon, or a single volley from a fire group of regular weapons, to easily break past the "allowed" margin and incur a bounty without any time for the player to react and stop firing before it happens, since it only needed one shot. Doesn't seem to have changed enough if people are still getting bounties for crossfire.

It doesn't really need changing though. The bigger your weapons, the bigger the responsibility to use them, well, responsibily.

You and I both know that's something that only works in theory. In practice, sh happens. NPCs you couldn't see on the cluttered radar mid combat dart in front of your C4 plasma for half a second and boom, that's the end of your adventure for the day. Given the huge variability in damage ranges and the ways it could be abused if the damage cap was set even higher, I don't believe limiting it based on inflicted damage is the right approach. More likely a combination of more reliable factors would be better, ie time on target, trigger use, ship facing, local allied status, etc.

If you acquire fine, you get anonymous access, pay fine and get full connection restored. Nothing serious really.

so i logged back in again.. wennt to Xihe to try to pay oof my 600cr bounty, but it doesnt let me. im in the interstellar thing, but my 600cr bounty is red.

am i the only one that has issues with it?

got 600cr bounty, then got locked out of all of my ships at home, no indication of how long or whatever.. is this working as intended?

No you are not alone. It was pretty ham fisted and needed another beta all for it's self.

Aww, sorry that you are moderately inconvenienced by your own lack of patience. As I said above, if I had my will, an assault of this nature would carry a 1200Cr bounty......2400Cr in a Hi-Sec system. IF would then charge you the 1200 or 2400 Cr, with a 300 or 600 Credit Fee for the service of cleaning the bounty.

i dunno where i can see nootoriety.

Right hand screen, in amongst all your other in-game stats.

Nope, not ham fisted. Just needs to be made *tougher*.

Yeah nothing about it is good, it doesn't make the game better in any way and it hurts the new player more than it helps all the poor old helpless clubbed seals from being clubbed. And it has loopholes. Nothing about it was good or functional. It's a clunky mess.

It makes making decent money harder by punishing people who do planetary scan missions. Making money at a reasonable rate is already a monumental chore in Elite: Dangerous, and it is completely impossible to see anything other than genuine, sadistic malice in this change. FDev have gone completely off the rails. Utter insanity.

Anarchies are relevant and meaningful, prices for stolen booty have never been better, Megaships are bursting with stuff to steal, player trading can be tracked on the GalMap and the do-gooders are up in arms over the new system...

Glorious!

Well done FDEV [heart][heart][heart]

ok. Sanity check here.

This thread started with players reporting being unable to clear bounties at interstellar factors when not notorious. Sandro has already confirmed that this is probably a bug. Given the penalties for being wanted in 3.0 this would be quite a severe bug and I'd bet it will likely get a hotfix. If it's confirmed as a bug and doesn't get one then I'll get out my pitchfork and torch along with the rest of you but we're not there yet.

But then we get page after page of folks using something "working wrong" as an excuse to call for not having it "working right" either! THESE are the "no consequences" crowd, not the OP or others who are wanting help after being hit with the supposed bug. Sorry guys, but the OPs experience does not support your gripe. Start your own gripe thread and complain about the existence of this mechanic, then get properly jumped-on there rather than trying to hide behind a discussion of a bug in how the mechanic is functioning to put a false gloss of legitimacy on your whining here where folks will still jump on you just as hard but all you do is muddy the waters of the pertinent discussion of the bug.

If that should be the case it should have been moved to the bugs forum.
