Engineers That moment when you buy a ship to increase combat rank to unlock Lori....then see the system.

Good joke FD, you got me.

I've unlocked 7 engineers in the past 2 weeks for the upcoming 2.3 and then I was like hey why not buy a FDL and kit it up to increase my combat rank so I can unlock Lori and get the grade 4 lightweight to life support.

Just about done with the FDL when I'm like wait what system is she in? Needs Founder's World permit....[mad] Are you serious??? WHY??

I know I'm late to the party but why on Earth is she locked behind an Elite rank requirement??? She's NOT that good of an Engineer. Meh, I guess I'll get her MUCH MUCH later because I am not going to grind to Elite rank LOL.

Live and learn.

Still better than finding out Bill is in Alioth after you mined 50 bromolite :)

That is the mother of all Scumbag Steve moments.

It's fine if you have a trade cutter or similar. Just keep the bromellite on it and trade up to Allied nearby. But if you don't and aren't a mining fan...salt ahoy!

OP. It doesn't take all that long to get Elite in trading. I did it whilst doing missions to get my Vette. That will unlock Shinrarta for you.

This ^.... and happy when doing that you lose 5 of these precious by frying your hatch nearby a white dwarf..... I thought Qwent would have been the worse , until I made the mistake of mining before beeing invited to Alioth.

Marco Qwent can be done in 1h ;)

Why are people thinking he takes so long - or "grinding" for a week ? You just have to know where and what :p
Don't make me do a Howto Video ... i might just do it. :p

Cheers!

What's the deal with Bill Turner and Alioth? I need to unlock him... Just doing the 500 tonnes of ore for what's-her-chops... Something I need to know?

the lightweight life support mod is not that good so you are not missing out on anything. It increased my jump rang by .43ly. I spent 20 roles of materials for that. The other lightweight mods are about the same amount (point defense, chaff). I guess if you stack them all you might gain 2ly. I am basing this on my roles of 20 each.

Agree, unless you're going off doing like 10k ly distances, a .3 lift won't make that much of a difference. I Won't be doing him at all...it's not about having the biggest tank or the best modded weapons....hell yeah of course it is :D...I've only onlocked 3 engineers in 3 months playing. It's been a big enough grind just getting the Fsd and dirty drive tuning half decent...I've done my python and start with my clipper tomorrow...if I can find data mined wake exceptions that is. despite visiting several famine systems today, not one had a distribution centre last week I was falling over them [blah]

Funny how we all (or almost all) had this important stuff and didn't know we would need it further down the track.
Unlocked Alioth fairly easily, but can't be bothered with Bill Turner.
I want Marco Qwent. Gonna ask for an opinion in Horizons discussion.

I have the founders permit thanks to elite exploration, dangerous in combat I am not, I went the opposite way and bought a ship to rank up, I realised how slow and painful it was (for me an explorer) so I gave up... I am at 67% though so only 23% to go until dangerous, I just cant face it as 1 hour usually = 5% if im VERY LUCKY and combat is not really that "fun" for me.

Nothing really special but as bromelite is long to get and Alioth requires a permit , then you just have to be sure to have it before starting mining. I made the mistake cause I wasn't involved in alliance stuff at all and I was in a mining spee due to Chung 200 gold and Selene 10 painites . That done, I just went on as I was already in my mining ship...just to realize 15 bromeltite tons later that I was just merely above neutral with Alliance and Alioth is their "homeworld", thus requiring a permit. I finished the mining but to climb the reputation ladder with 50 bromelites on board is rather "a bit stressfull" sometimes.
