The 8A Fuel Scoop Experience

Greetings,

Why would anyone purchase an 8A Fuel Scoop at 289 million credits when there are so many other very useful modules including the 8E 264 cargo rack at 3.8 million for my Imperial Cutter? Well I did! Why?

Being mostly a Trader I finally decided to get somewhat serious engineering my Cutter weapons. First up just for fun let's go with two of the 3D turret beams costing 19 million each, go with class 3 efficient and adding Thermal Shock and Thermal Conduit effects for PvE. Pro laser players may laugh at my decision but never being really serious about combat it might just fill the bill.

Now I have to collects mats, trade with Material Traders in a few systems then fly to WARD for the Engineering. A lot of jumping around so let's drop a cargo hold and put in a 8A Fuel Scoop.

OMG it is so fast! A short hop and upon flying around from the arrival star to the station I get the 'fuel scoop completed' voice message not even trying to scoop. Two max 30LY jumps (engineered FSD) with a star one cannot refuel in between and it fills the Cutter's huge tanks in less than 10 seconds! I wish that I had this on my long range explorer Anaconda! If a player is going to take a Cutter to the center of the galaxy this could certainly cut down on the scooping time and hours to get there.

So in the bubble I smile while moving around to complete my beam turret upgrades. As one can buy/sell equipment with no loss in credits I'm only renting the thing! Too bad that we cannot design our own paint work as I'd probably put a U-Hall Fuel Scoop rental logo on the Cutter.

UPDATE: After Engineering 3 pips to WEP and I never lose a bar firing the dual 3D turret beams constantly or any heat generation. Probably per my class 5 charge enhanced distributor plus those 19 million credit turret beams were already heat and power efficient before engineering them. Probably why they cost so much. That gives me other choices with ENG and SYS. We'll see in ED combat...

Regards

I'm also a fan of big fuel scoops, but mostly I just wanted to say that "The 8A Fuel Scoop Experience" would be an awesome name for an alternative, jazz-fusion rock band.

I totally love your reply. I played jazz piano for years...this is weird.

Fuel scoops are overrated. Being stuck 264LY from the nearest outpost, tank 80% empty and plotting the most efficient route you can whilst sweating - now that's what I call fun.

Or is that oops?

I may have got my emotions confused...

I agree with Hooplah. Great name for a ship as well. :)

It’s a simple rule with fuel scoops for me and that’s always the biggest Arated one I can fit on a ship. Exploring or moving round the bubble top spot is always for the scoop.

I use 7A, and always cut down the tanks by one or more (think beluga). With a small enough tank you'll be full before you align correctly for the next jump.

I don't get why people turn off the scoop and have large tanks, thats madness.

When modules count I've always found if one has say a class 4 fuel tank a class 5 fuel scoop will get the job done. Of course more is needed going seriously into the black for months in game play.
