The AI does not suffer the same penalties a player does from module damage.

At around the 80% module health threshold you will start to experience malfunctions, depending on the module affected.
They will occur as the module is used and will happen at various intervals, hindering the operation of the craft affected.

A damaged weapon will either refuse to fire or fire off randomly without input. The weapon ceases to function completely if the module drops down to 0%.

Damaged engines will make you lose control of your vector and make you spin wildly. You will become immobile if the module drops down to 0%.

Damaged sensors ill cause you to lose target lock. No targetting will be available if the module drops down to 0%.

Damaged power distributor will make the pips redistribute randomly. No distribution will be available if the module drops down to 0%.

A damaged power plant will disable all your other modules leaving you dead in the water, soon to become literally dead as you can't retaliate.

The AI controlled craft are only affected by the latter part of the malfunctions I listed, that is their module will cease to function if and only if its health drops to 0%. Any decimal point above that and they are fine and dandy.

Their weapons never misfire when damaged.

I think I've seen an NPC fly in an irregular pattern once? Not sure, as it was at standoff range. Otherwise in combat I've never seen an NPC lose control of their craft as players do when their engines become damaged.

I don't even think the AI use sensors - they just follow the player even if they lose the target on the radar or if the player is in silent running.

Worst of all and the most glaring difference is the power plant - not a single time in the past two years have I seen an NPC suffer a random malfunction of their powerplant.

This is what I've been seeing so far.
Am I blind?
Or did the NPCs just luck out on each and every one their rolls for malfunctions in the few thousand encounters I had so far?
