The Alien: Isolation Thread

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
It's indeed terrifying. :)

Several times now I've wound up cowering under desks, afraid to come out probably long after I should have. :)

It's got a few rough edges, sure, but I agree that it's quite faithful to the original movie.

Kind of blown away by Alien Isolation so far, only about 5 hours in but wow they have done an amazing job on this game. I have been playing it in the dark with headphones on and I can honestly say I have never been so scared by a game! The audio and visual detail is unreal and it is so well optimized, I'm playing it on my macbook with a 512mb graphics card with everything set med to high and have a solid 30fps, and it looks beautiful. I have been excited for this since it was first announced, so it is great to see it turn out good. Also it is not a bad thing to have a wee break from Elite, I don't want to play (test ) it too much while it is still in beta!

One of the things I love about it is the building up of tension in constant. Not like on Dead space where monsters just jump at you or like the most recent scary games that just are scary because showing you either gory stuff or jump scares

Wish horror movies take notes from this game

I know they had a demo using the rift and they had no plans to release rift support.

If they did however add support, my money would be thrown at the screen. :D

I bought in too. Trouble is I've played maybe 45 minutes apparently you dont see the alien for the first hour but............ I don't bloody want to see him.... Im <very> scared.
Although seriously I have had to take a break and im feeling a little scared to go back in !!! encouragement needed.

If only CA/Sega hadn't shafted me with Rome2, i might have been interested.

Alas i still have a trade embargo against them until 2020.
Still, if the game lives up to it's standard i'll get it for 2€ on a sale by then.
Although i suspect the hype around this game will be short lived and i doubt it will even survive until 2015 dawns upon us.
Soon enough the games flaws will start to surface after the initial 'wow' effect is gone, as is what happens to every overhyped game.

i saw some levels on youtube and i must say that i am pretty dissappointed for the linear contents that this game has to offer.

Beautiful reconstructions of the original movie's furnishings and interesting feeling point of view.. but all the rest seems to me very boring and poor.
Actually the Alien is done very well indeed and his movements (that in first sight, months ago, worried me a lot) are well done now.

The whole project is created only with the (poor) pourpose to scare people here and there for few seconds instead to re-create the real feeling of
be threatened by something (somewhere) who is hiding in the shadows.
This game is just like a 'B' horror movie... too little for a big AAA title name as 'ALIEN'.

Anyhow, is, at least, something better than the previous games of the serie.

You know the sad thing about Alien: Isolation? I read about all the awesome and am really intrigued, but I can't stand any "hide or run from the monster" games. I could barely get through the one antlion chase in HL2EP2, and that sequence was just an antlion running after you while you are required to dash the final stretch of a cave to the exit.

On the other hand, Alien: Isolation looks like yet another game which I would love to play with the roles inverted - playing as the xenomorph trying to catch all the humans, with one particularly clever and inventive one.

(Another game that I'd only play if the roles were swapped is all the recent XCOM games. I want to stage the alien invasion, not stop it. :D)

I feel the same way. Been chased is not my favorite game but Im an Alien fan so I had to and at least for the atmosphere and looks is well worth it

Played with the lights off and the volume up...

Anyone who embraces the 'experience' wont be disappointed. :)

I spent 5 mins hiding under a desk waiting for it to leave the room tonight - I swear it could hear me wishing it to leave... Having seen each film dozens of times, I am still amazed that the game instills such a foreboading sense of dread when you hear that hiisssssssss.

I can't play it anymore. Freaks me right out, lol. :)
Play games to relax...AI makes me a nervous wreck. :p
i spent a good part of my weekend with it. yesterday a mate freaked me out. he knew i was jumpy playing the game. make sure to do some jogging before you play or a heart attack might get you ;)

i found out its better to hide under beds and tables cause i dont feel imprisoned there and hear better.

just listen to the sounds and watch the beautiful scenery

Just a heads up: the new nvidia driver 344.88 causes Alien Isolation to freeze on the map loading screen on my system. Probably when the game tries to switch to another background video for the loading screen. Rolling back to my old driver fixed the problem.
