Dear Commanders,
Some of us love PvP. Others are not really into it. Some people are also concerned about losing a 200m ship just for few minutes of fun shooting at other players in a similar situation.
Here is my potential answer: the Tiny Ships Arena Mod (TSAM - unregistered tm).
Imagine two AI capital ships fighting, with all the laser, turrets, torpedoes and all those stuff. Exciting, right?
Now imagine that these AI capital ships need squadron of tiny fighters. These fighters are all the same, are cheap, and do not have FSD (see F63 Condor and Imperial Fighter). Well what about you are the one flying them? Your mission would be to ensure that your capital ship survives. The best way to proceed would be up to you: destroying enemy fighters (ie. other players), protecting your capital ship while it is tanking the enemy capital ship; protecting torpedoes after launch to make sure they hit the target (ahhh Starlancer!); or even going crazy on the capital ship shield generators to make bite the dust.
Now why is it appropriate for an arena mod?
1) We all have the same tiny fighter: it's all about skills, not how much you have been grinding to outfit your ship;
2) The fighters are made for mass production, and presumably cheap: you would not spend tons of money because you decided to fight;
3) These fighters don't have FSD: players could not steal a ship and go around, they remain attach to their capital ship. Win or die, no way out, like in a real arena;
4) Multiple choice: victory can be achieved through several means, either by being defensive or act more aggressively;
5) Far from "normal" play: the capital ships would encounter in an undisclosed location. Since you are just a pilot in a tiny spacecraft with limited systems, you don't know much about what's around;
6) Capital ships battle!!! I mean, come on!!!!
Over the time other scenario could be imagined, like one capital ship versus a fleet of small ships, pirate base versus security crew, ...
What do you think?
