The arrival of llaMA 3.1

MeTa's "llaMa 3.1" has arrived, with an incredible 405b of parameters, equivalent to "GPT 4o"... But with the difference that it is free and open source. Now an artificial intelligence as powerful as GPT4o is at the hands of companies that want to benefit from it, what do you think if Frontier started using it to take Elite to levels never before imagined?

AI may lead somewhere useful. It may not. Hopefully it does not involve some form of skynet. AI right now is pure marketing and selling smoke and mirrors. Give it another decade
What do you mean, it's just marketing? We use it at my work and it has revolutionized everything. What's more, those who don't use it are at a serious disadvantage compared to others. I can practically do all the work of a department by myself. What do you mean?

It's not (yet) skynet that's the problem.

It's people. With AI.

Terrible awful people.
I agree with that, it all depends on who uses it, in the end AI (for the moment) is just a tool, but I mean using it for Elite. We are not talking about anything else other than this game.

And soon your department won't need you either, what happened to all the folks the you can "practically do all the work of a department by myself"
Best go and retrain as a Plumber,Electrician or a builder as Ai is going to wipe out the office based jobs.

I rely on parts suppliers to provide me with correct and functional parts every time. They send me incorrect or broken parts quite often. We have to test all parts before installing because we know the manufacturers are unreliable these days. Their employees don't know any better, and they don't want to.

AI is the same, with no-one to blame but the user. Relying on it is going to end badly.

Ok, good point, but the topic of conversation is about Elite, and how this tool could improve the experience and development of this video game. I understand that now more than ever, nobody is indispensable, next year the Tesla and Chinese robots will go on sale and perhaps those more manual jobs will also be replaced by robots. but we are getting off topic. xP

And then the 19 year old self-proclaimed "AI Consultants" will be replaced which is hilarious.

I mean clearly there's some benefit to AI ...

I don't care about Elite, AI is an existential threat that eclipses my views on a video game.
I already said that I understood the point. Yes, yes, we are all going to die... But now back to Elite, the question is, how can this tool, which currently has the same power as gpt4o, but is free and opensource, exponentially improve this video game. If small business groups or hobbyists can use such a powerful tool on their servers, imagine what Frontier could do for Elite.

AI has a 70% chance of causing the extinction of the species and you're concerned about an on line computer game?
Best solutions to AI attack would be to knock out the power to the data centres hosting the AI or the telephone exchanges interrupting its communication.
You do realise your mobile phone is a tracking device?
