The Asp Scout [Elite Dangerous]

Make it faster. Add two utilities. Maybe an internal slot. Make it cheaper.

Done.

It’s already about as responsive as a DBS in terms of handling, and has great hardpoint placement, so that’s cool.

Different strokes for different folks.
The misses and I bought a sport car most shunned or laughed at, their's are all faster. Really bums them out when the misses "A mere woman" smokes their cars in the corners on the track.
Fly what works for you.
I fly what I like. The rest can go shuck corn.

Just another filler ship.

Asp Scout. DBS. Hauler. Type 6.

Just there to make up the numbers. Other ships in their size class could do what they do, and more.
Only players "adventurous" enough to try riding a weak sister would wanna try them on for size.... 🤣

But ASPs are great ships to target and blow up. Large hit area when they expose their ventral / dorsal side to you.

Beam lasers cut thru their shields. Then frag cannons to tear them apart. That large roundish hull, taking all the fragments in.
Mmm mmm mmmmm

I mean....you know I'm not isinona, right?
Oh, of course. I mean I've not seen anyone, Anyone, give this much love to the AspS since that video, maybe 2 years ago now? I'm glad you're not skipping the less desirables.
I was quite tired at the time and I feel like I just didn't finish the comment. =/

great vid. i fly the scout simply because of its shortcomings. you did a good job pointing out its flaws and picking the right ships for comparison, which are the Type-6, Keelback, both Cobra's, the Viper Mk IV and the Vulture. When you put all of them side by side it's really clear the plan they had for the ship was a bad one.

The ship is so forgotten and unloved that it didn't even get a buff when other ships did, like the Saud Kruger ships, the Type-9, etc. There are so many ships with 2 medium and 2 small hard points already in the game, I am not sure what they could do to make this ship matter at that price.

worse, it actually has gotten a buff since its release :(

except comparing a scout with a vulture or even a cobra doesn't make any sense. this discussion is totally biased towards mere efficiency. if that were to be the golden rule there would be only what ... 5 ships in the game? there are several ships that aren't particularly good at any of the canned gameplay paths the game offers yet people keep flying them just because they like them, that's quite ok in my book. then there's people who does everything in the same ship and wouldn't change for nothing, and that's also ok.

dunno, maybe giving the scout a bit more speed in supercruise would make it a proper ... scout?

i compare it to the vulture because of its similar agility, speed and price and the cobra because the majority of internals can be swapped (which is why its worth engineering it since you are really just engineering a cobra). my biggest gripe is the price. pull up Coriolis and compare the price points of ships with only 2 utility slots and the 3+ million for the scout sticks out like a sore thumb.

as for super cruise, and because of its agility, players flying an asp scout really should never submit to an interdiction

Or even be interdicted. There is no way a corvette, cutter or even FDL can wriggle its way around a perceptive Asp Scout in SC to start an interdiction. Its a blast to fly and can get most jobs done. If you are after PVE fun, the Asp Scout (and DBS) are the ships you want. And as for the price: it may be a bit steep for what it is but who cares when money rains from heaven. All I wish for would be for a smaller profile, but hey.

I have as AspS that I use to check commodity prices, explore trade routes, and collect materials. Has a wake scanner and collector limpets. Upped the speed and jump range with some engineering. A fine handeling ship with best VR cockpit view out in the game.

I use mine to collect materials. It’s great collector.

The only material mine collects is dust.

Scavving was something I did try with an AspS but after a couple of days it became unavoidably obvious that I was hindering myself just for the sake of using a variety of ships.

For a couple of million extra credits, you can buy an AspX instead, which is probably the best scavving ship in the game IMO.
