The Basilisk Arrival- FOR GOD'S SAKE STOP!!!!

It provides one of the rare instances where you can actually see a Thargoid vessel jump IN rather than out. That is, when the first calls for backup to help collect the goodies.
i have no idea how all of this will eventually play out, but i'd like to see a way of the thargs being able to be both friend and enemy, e.g. "this guy is carrying AX weapons, choose hostile approach" or alternatively "this vessel is no threat, choose friendly or neutral approach" - but i'm guessing the shoot-first types will win out overall, you can't un-do a hostile first impression, so we have already soiled our nest to a degree

The main way FDev has given us to interact with others is by shooting them. What else can we do, use harsh language in chat?

I also think we shouldn't attack them. I don't, and won't unless there is an outright attack and threat to human space. Problem is, that the Thargoids don't communicate with us and without stating a clear intention they are a potential threat. Also because they take escape pods for whatever reasons. We don't know. We don't know anything, and that's the problem.

On the gameplay side of things, there is also not much left to do than fighting them. As I said before, I won't do that, but I scanned, successfully probed them with research limpets and watched them a lot, but that's really all non-hostile options we have right now. So it's either watch or shoot, given we want to do anything with the Thargoids right now, and I can't really blame people for wanting to engage them in any way.

Storywise it's of course human behavior again. Also the way Aegis turned from a research group into warmongers within a day is what I expected (and also a nice statement on real life politics), and my Commander pretty much turned away from them.

Okay, now that I have your attention drawn to this comment, please read:

Comments on the steam equivalent of this thread have pointed out that my "gun-ho" comment was written in such a way that it could be distasteful. My apologies if I wrote it in such a manner, it was not at all my intention. I have now edited it slightly and apologise to anyone whom I offended!

Well, to be fair, I think the term you were looking for was 'gung ho'. IE: Overzealous, enthusiastically, etc.. :D

People keep making excuses for the thargoids. I am not hungry for pew, and I was perfectly willing to give them a chance. Chance was given... we've see their handy work. We've seen them go aggressive simply for being in proximity. We've seen them abduct and "consume" human escape pods with both the living and the dead. We've seen them destroy unarmed peaceful science mega ships and prisoner facilities. What more do you need?

Has anyone actually recorded thargoid ships firing on unarmed peaceful science mega ships and prisoner facilities? Has anyone actually seen this happen?

Has anyone even landed on Earth and Mars? Are we sure these planets aren't abandoned wastelands?

Players don't get to see everything that's happened or happening in game. We're not that important in the universal scheme of things. Also it means FD don't have to code these scenarios and can just tell us about them because they feel they can better use their limited resources elsewhere.

The distress call logged in Celeano is pretty conclusive about Thargoids attacking. We don't need to see it with our own eyes.

This. Players haven't seen it, but NPC major powers and even private sectors have. We will likely see more than enough of it in the end.

Before someone tries, don't give the argument that they are alien and may have a different definition of hostile. That cuts both ways as we are alien to them. They should consider that shouldn't they? Just because we aren't a hive mind doesn't mean we won't mind that they killed Billy and Joe from across the street. We may not have liked Billy's humor nor Joe's face, but they were human and they didn't attempt to provoke the Thargoids.

When the last Thargoid is dead and the last heart has been harvested, only then will we realise, we can't eat creds.

Tell that to a Judge in a court of law....

They were on the scene when we arrived M'lud.....

You were on the scene when the military arrived. Are they to assume you were the culprit simply because you were at the scene? Or should the military be required to have some form of proof before executing you?

Have you even read the logs from the listening post?

These science and prison mega ships were clearly destroyed using thargoid tech, but afaik no aliens were caught with a smoking gun, if that's what you're asking? But then this begs the question: if you assume that Thargoids weren't the ones using thargoid weapons in the systems that that thargoids have been patrolling.... then who do you propose did the shooting?

Are you suggesting that the Thargoids were framed by humans using Thargoid weapon tech? If so, then might I offer you a tortilla with the virgin murray emblazoned on it? It's going for the low low price of only 12 billion Blemfarcks.

I just want to make it clear - that if the Thargoids prove to be loveable, peacefull aliens who just want to be our friends - I for one will still kill as many as I can, as often as I can.
I dislike the film "Avatar" (and ET for that matter) and want to see overpowering military force used on all aliens whenever possible.
Remember the official Space Marines War-Cry is claimed to be "EAT PLUTONIUM DEATH, YOU DISGUSTING ALIEN WEIRDOS!" (D.R & Quinch tm)

I may be a bad man.

As long as we can eat Thargoid hearts though, we'll be fine. Speaking of which, has anybody heard from that chef who was advertising his barnacle restaurant on galnet last year..?

I just analyzed what you wrote, used the data to create a picture and got this:
