Ships The best shield for hitting the ground

I wonder, how to manage the shield power to avoid destroy in case of hitting the ground.

My friend did some crash-test, and realised that for Dolphin with 165 RAW shield can survive hit in the ground at planet with 1G gravity with boost (almost 500 m/s).
I wonder, what is important for that test.

Shield RAW, boost speed - that's obvious
Planet gravity (seems like it is important, but why if we do the test with boosting, so the speed is the same at 1G and 0,2G planet)
How pips works in that case, is hitting absolute damage or just raw?
Is ship hull mass or full mass important?

Of course we can do more tests, but maybe there is some more information?

Things you can influence:

  • Put all pips in SYS before you crash. Shield is ~2.5 times stronger when you do that
  • The angle and what you hit are of big influence. It used to be that FCs were much 'harder' and cause much more shield loss/damage
  • Use Heavy duty on Boosters and Reinforced on shields
  • Ship mass is not a factor (from my 'science')
  • Pro tip! Do not land/fall on skimmers or Goliaths
Test a lot. It helps to be confident in your shields.
