The bloody Dropship! Dropship is just a big fat ugly Butlins mistake

Anyone else agree that the Dropship is a bit meh and a bit pointless at the moment? there doesn't seem to be a use for it really. Combat wise I think other ships do things much better, it's not even the best tank. It's slow and a bit rough looking... like a fat Butlins lay when your single and gagging.

(Butlins is a tacky cheesy holiday get away for Brits to drink to much and lay a fat bird)

Before it had military slots it was a decent tanky miner and trader and I have some good game time in it... not great range or price wise but was a nice alternative to the Type 6, Keelback and Python for medium trade n mining and a bit niche...a bit different. I decided to revisit the old Dropshop on Coriolis ship builder.

Now I feel the ship is just a hull tank but in terms of combat but not even the best tank. I honesty think you need to be drunk, mental or a bit desperate to use it.

:-D

Anyway give it another 4 or 5 slot or take back the military slots for normal ones!

The Dropship is still a good ship in the correct uses

Mine is used as an Anti-Xeno ship and it excels at that role, I think they can be used very effectively in PvP too

You can still get a reasonable amount of cargo in it too

I made a shieldless cold running FDS with 128t of cargo. Could be useful for smuggling, but I also added hatch breakers and collector limpets and used it for megaship escape hatch farming. Could probably work for looting cargo bays, too. Had a Thargoid spawn at one megaship and it simply ignored me, jumped away without even looking into my direction.

i went to butlins once... what a filthy cretinous place, not sure about fat birds, there were a few overweight pigeons that were questionable in their flying capabilities with scruffy feathers and some with only one foot, also a couple of greedy seagulls waiting for chips if that's what you mean

The Dropship was my materials gatherer, wake scanner, limpet controller, cargospace, srv and I realy liked it in that roll.
Then the Krait was introduced........

I take exception to this post.

My dad's first ever job was with Butlins in Skegness back in the late '50s. Now I don't know much about birds and even less about dropships, but I'll not have such a fine English establishment maligned with such impunity.

OP is objectively right. The Dropship is entirely inferior to the Challanger (except for higher masslock). It has lower firepower, worse lats, worse speed, worse turn rate, requires rank grind before purchase, terrible utility placement (cannot utilise point defence) but isn't anymore tankier or coldrunning than the Challanger.

The dropship used to be special because it was the only lower end non-heavy medium ship that could enjoy the higher regen of class 6 biweaves. It lost its niche with the release of Chieftain and especially with the release of Challanger, and became entirely obsolete, similarly to the Gunship which became obsolete with the release of the Krait.

I disagree with OP.
Federal Dropship is one of the most underrated ships in the game, capable of doing almost everything and I like that.
The ship I used the most in my long pilot career (don't like large ships). Only thing it lacks for my taste is SLF, that's why I replaced it with Krait for now.

With 7 hardpoints and a much thicker Hull, the FGS way outguns the Krait, which is a low-cost python clone with a fighter bay, better maneuverability and a cardboard hull.

So? The krait is much more fun to fly and much more forgiving than the Dropship which slides like drunk on ice if you get too far out of the blue zone.

The Dropship is a good ship to level up on but once you can afford something else... But fly what you like.

Hardpoint count barely means anything. Heck, gunship's medium hardpoints get a damage penalty against big ships and FDL because of lower armor piercing value, and lower turn rate and speed decrease the real firepower even further.

Thicker hull? Actually not. From Harry Potter's testing, ships have a hidden damage multiplier value, and gunship's is painfully inefficient. The same amount of hull with the same resistances on the gunship, lasts far shorter than a dropship with the very same values, for example. The hull amount value is higher on the display, but actual damage soaked is far smaller - gunship is made out of cardboard.

Have at you you cad. When I was a kid the 2 weeks holiday at buttlins was the highlight of my year. Could off and do what I wanted to do ALL day long with little if any intervention from my parents. It was bliss.

I am intrigued by this hidden damage multiplier. Never heard of that before. Could you elaborate or provide other comparisons?

FAS is better, imo.
