Powerplay The boring way to get merits in Powerplay

One is supposed to enjoy the killing way to get merits more than the cargo-way, but after a couple thousands merits earned pulling off supercruise Adders and blowing them like helpless popcorns, the thing gets a bit repetitive. How about adding some complexity or different targets to this, FD? Maybe base-strikes, different merits depending on the target, a bit of variety, what do you think? Can it be there's no interesting/enjoyable way to get to something? :|

Join a power that doesnt give out Combat Merits and see how fast it gets old.

I cant wait till I hit week 4 so I can get what I want and leave PP. It really needs a redesign.

Well thats because PP was supposed to be a multiplayer experience, you are supposed to have resistance from other PP players when you come and undermine a system by killing haulers. Since everyone grind individually in SOLO (since PP is available for them as well), the result is just another repetitive grindy element of the game-play, and its indeed boring as you just found out.

Were the BGS and Powerplay more closely intertwined (currently, they are held together by a few weak threads), then you could make just about any activity in the bubble profitable from a PP standpoint.

Yeah. As a standalone game, PP is boring.

i did the 750 hudson merits yesterday and within a denton patreus system killing imperial support ships , i had a denton patreus commander fly over and ask what i was doing here? so i told him "killing imperial support ships" ... his reply was "ok, thanks" .. sounds like its working as intended lol :)

Heh, I guess its just a failed feature and noone bothers with it except for modules.

I can enjoy the roleplaying, but come on the mechanics is terribly boring. Unless it is made available to PvP only and merits for ship killing dramatically increased (who would risk a 20-40M rebuy to get a few dozens merits?).

Was supposed to be this way.

Well I think that was probably the overarching intent - an outlet for purposeful in-game PvP. One of the problems with that is the outlet was not restricted to PvP mode. Without the threat of PvP, the base mechanics of combat farming and bulk transport then become, well... lame, boring mechanics.

PowerPlay is best described as two ghosts boxing each other in term of PvP interaction lol.

Or playing risk on different boards XD

It does not make for "thrilling" gameplay.

Yes this has to change.
I have made several proposals concerning this, especially the debilitating, depressing system of merit decay that eventually tears your heart out and destroys your soul. I am now a soulless ED player with a hole where my heart should be.

To be honest... it is, or can be that way.
But this is compressed into a short 2.24 min video with very cool music.
I have played PP for a long time and saw a lot of action, just as depicted in the video. I had bounties on my head totaling over 25 million credits in the territory of a certain pirate.

What killed my powerplay drive was the murderous merit decay system.
It demanded total brainless devotion of all your game time to maintain your level of merits otherwise all your effort would be utterly declared null and void in no time.
I just could not do it anymore after a while.

I hope in the future FD will add some gameplay mechanics for the soloist like me. I do not care about conquering territory in a multiplayer/PvP setting at all.
I just want to do missions for my power and earn merits, get some privileges, perhaps get some letters of marque to hunt down enemy ships (needs redesign of piracy mechanic) , or get bounty hunt licenses (needs redesign of bounty hunt mechanic) for my power's territory, or perhaps I could do some espionage missions.

If FDev succeeds in better integrating the Power Play territories and the political gameplay into the normal everyday ED gameplay then I believe PP will have a bright future.

Rank 50 million pay cheque each week. People who arnt involved think no one does it. Just check how many systems get fortified each week by each power you might get a surprise.

What's the tedium?
I did nothing different for a few weeks and then ran a bunch of cargo.
You don't have to stay level 4 for the whole time.
