The Bounty Hunting & Bounties tips, and general discussion thread

I wonder how they could confuse those two values. o_O

If you look at my screenshots, it looks very easy to confuse them. I do not remember when the change has happened but during Beta these were called Bounty vouchers on the transactions tab. Now these are called bounties in Faction. Not that hard to confuse by the way it looks.

I cannot say for the others. But this is so in my case. The listed wanted bounties are actually the bounty rewards that I did not claim yet. And you can clearly see that on the screenshots that I have provided as wanted bounty are equal to my unclaimed bounty rewards rewards (or a sum of two claims in Komovoy that I have).

You cant claim these or just havent? man if you died that would suck to lose all of them

I should be able to claim them, I simply do not want to do it just yet. Well, I've crashed only once since Gamma (was my fault) after clearing a save (intentional in January just to counter any possible arguments that I got my ship during Gamma) and that crash has revealed a bug in insurance so served the "science". :D

Well, I am not planning to be destroyed, however, if I do losing bounty claims will definitely not bother me at all. That's the game. ;)

Well, as I am bounty hunting the values should be increased now. That's the way to know for sure. I am not claiming the bounties for this reason as well, otherwise I am out of top 5 and it is going to be hard to check.

Bounty hunters dream target !

I was selling my exploration data to Lambda Andromedae, then check the news after my two days trip and saw this :

That's quite a fair bounty. Well I'm on the verge to say it's maybe a bug

Yep it seems like an exploit.

But if I recall, the fine for killing another commander is 5000 cr right ? So 2000000000/5000 = 400000 kills
I don't buy it, it's a bug or a hack.

Not necessarily. You could rack up some serious fines just by being scanned with illegal cargo and running, then let the timers expire. It's possible, though the amount of work you'd have to put in to get a number that large would seem to be more than it's worth.

The big number of zeros in that total does make it extremely suspicious though. I'm more inclined to think you're right on this one, it's just a tad too sketchy to be completely legit.

What's the biggest bounty you've seen?

I ask because I've just seen a bounty listed in a stations wanted list at two billion credits!

I won't name the commander who carries this bounty, partly because this isn't the place for it... Mostly because it's against forum rules to name and shame... even if it's not really shaming, however he (or she) is wanted in Anlave and Procyon, and probably many other places too... and was last sighted in Altair.

How does one rack up such a bounty. The biggest crime in the game is murder, and this carries a 4,000cr bounty, so that would mean this commander has to have murdered half a million people! That's an impressive spree, you'd think it would make the news. There's a one man (or one woman) genocide out there.

Or else some fishy business is afoot.
(Which is part of the reason I didn't name names, I didn't want to direct everyone to a named commander only for it to turn out to be a bug)

I think it is a bug honestly. But I do think there are other ways to get bounties.
Also, I think they gather interest, so if you get 200cr bounty it might be 1000cr in a few days.

I saw that bounty just now too, could a moderator please let me know if a screenshot of a name readily available on Galnet is bad form?

A cargo bay of Imperial Slaves gets you an 8 million credit fine/bounty. Jump in/out of a system getting fined and you end up with a 2 billion credit bounty and a friend next to you with an itchy trigger finger and even bigger smirky grin contemplating his imminent riches......

Murder doesn't get much of a bounty, but the fines from carrying illegal or stolen goods can get astronomical. 250 tons of something worth 10k a ton, and that's a 2.5 million credit fine, which increases if it turns into a bounty. Get scanned enough and... ouch.

IMO the bounty/fine values should be logarithmic to some accumulated score, to prevent them getting quite so absurd (and as mentioned above, exploitable)

Where do I pick up the bounty?

I finally got a bounty kill worth 11k in the Daiku system. The bounty says Daiku Labour and there is no station with that name. I am on a station in Daiku already. I searched for that in the Galaxy and there is no place with the name. I finally get a kill and can't collect!!! :)
