Once we get some proper junkyards, the next step needs to be tractor beams!
Shoot out a ship's power plant to disable it, then hit it with your tractor beam. The dead ship is then pulled up against your hull and you can fly it to the junkyard (some kind of extra mass penalty applies to jump range and speed.) When you get there, open your contacts tab and instead of requesting docking, there's a "sell salvaged ship" selection. A small percentage of the ship's cost is transferred to you and the junkyard fires out some collector limpets to attach to the dead ship and bring it into the station. You could even have the salvaged ship broken down and have its modules available for purchase so the inventory is constantly changing.
