The Bubble need a junkyard

Ey! Thanks for the info, but we actually had saved that link :D

Nope, we didn't applied for submit our minor faction because we really would love starting in a junkyard. Yeah, maybe we're a little optimistic about that, hehe.

Put that in the proposal. They may actually help you with that. Might be a CG event or somesuch to establish a junkyard, by having folks haul in scrap, etc..

The new insectoid overlords, will be making the bubble, one big scrap-yard; soon enough.

Spacewrecks? :)

Seeing that reminded me of something else...

I know it makes absolutely no sense at all but it'd be really cool if FDev could bung a Space Shuttle in the game, somehow.
Perhaps they could stick an Engineer in the Sol system who was a big fan of antiques and, after unlocking him (perhaps by collecting a variety of ancient artifacts?), you could buy a battered, modified, old Shuttle from him?
With atmospheric landings on the way, maybe it'd have a niche as the ultimate "training ship" for atmospheric landings (assuming they require a bit of skill)?

Also, I had another look at The Dark Wheel and realised it was a "cemetary" where Alex got his ship, rather than a junkyark.
The sentiment remains the same though.
A fixed location which looked like a large debris-field, filled with wrecked ships, and a station or platform somewhere in the middle of it, and a variety of drops to be had, would be very impressive.

Getting antique scrap could be great, but I suppose that it has already been collected over the years (maybe now could be a rare commodity).

But it's true that the idea to "implement the Tionisla Graveyard" is being very commented. Maybe the developers could add it with assets that were already in the game and later update it with more custom aspect (as they have done with the stations).

It'll probably never happen, but here's an idea:

Implement the Tionisla Graveyard. Make it big. Like 'planetary ring' big. The vast majority of it will be useless junk, just a huge debris field, but mats of all sorts will also spawn there (like Dav's Hope and some of the large fixed ships).

Here's where it gets interesting: you can also find workable ships there. Damaged, but still flyable. They'll cost a lot of money to get running properly, but it'll be doable. However: in order to take possession of a 'new' ship you have to discard your current one.

So let's say you tool out there in your fully upgraded and Engineered Cobra III. You strike it lucky and find a heavily damaged (but still technically functional) Python. You can swap over to the Python but you have to discard your Cobra, possibly for other Commanders to find. Now, the downside to this is that it opens itself up to abuse. It would be technically possible to use this to give another player your fully functional Cobra, so maybe something needs to happen to your old ship to reduce it to 'wreck' status. Partial self-destruct or something.

That is so funny. Believing that something build by NASA would last a thousand years.

True ... Its an old pic... Of an ancient and immense graveyard of ships discovered in Beta Pavonis when it was on the outskirts of the "bubble".... In the early days of the Federation...brought to light by a group called the Terran Trade Authority. The graveyard had some pretty weird stuff in it too...

Who says it lasted to the 34th century naturally?

Maybe it got here through some kind of temporal anomaly or it got hijacked by the Thargoids a thousand years ago and kept for study? :p

I was thinking about this yesterday after the combat CG ended. Consider, 70,000,000,000 CR bounties collected at Tier 8. Figure the average bounty was, say 70,000 CR, then that's a million ships destroyed in one system in about 4-5 days. That's a helluva lot of scrap, cargo and materials floating about.

Eventually I can imagine that scrap is either found within the rings of planets, or for ships destroyed elsewhere, over time it would collect at various orbital resonance points within the system. Huge and stable junk piles could exist, collecting over centuries, maybe even as big as some planetary rings.

Another possibility might be large mega-ship sweepers that fly around the system collecting junk and depositing it somewhere.

We could scavenge these for materials, canisters, data, escape pods, and even usable modules. Maybe even install the modules in situ and repair them with the AFMU.

Lots of possibilities. Probably wouldn't be high on FDev's priority list. But still, good idea.

I like it. Sounds fun.

I'm betting these salvager types have some FEARSOME ships too. A player that enjoys gathering materials is a dangerous player indeed...

I love this idea. Also, the theme to "Sanford and Son" has been playing in my head this entire thread.

Yeah, "Salvageable wreckage" signals appears in CG when large convoys have been attacked, but maybe it could spawn after big wars or when a bounty CG ends very quickly.

I would bet you the voyager probes will still be flying in a K years. How much they will be functioning is another matter.

As I understand it, the Voyager 1 power source will die sometime between 2025 and 2030. After that, it's just a message in a bottle.

So basically a reskinned asteroid field?

Place a few a couple of systems away from Engineers and you could have missions based on searching salvage in them, along with NPC scavengers and Pirates too.
