Woohoo! I'm not gutted that Sgurr rocked up on the last day and beat my time, knocking me out of first spot that I honestly thought I might have snuck... Not at all... In all seriousness really well done, I'm more than happy to be as close as I was to be honest.

I'm not sure how I managed to get under the 25 minute mark, I thought it would be mid 25 especially after my station tap but I guess I must have just been smooth. My initial run was going LHS 1380 > Fawaol > Jumuzgo > Aymifa > Vequess that was 12 jumps. I worked out that if I started in the other direction I could get 11 from the in game plotter and Jumuzgo > Aymifa > Fawaol > LHS 1380 > Vequess. I could tell (or I hoped) from the jump up in times of the top three being in the 25's that there must be a way to save an extra jump and I knew it had to be between Fawaol and LHS 1380, or LHS and Vequess because they were the only ones with 3 jumps. I knew my jump range would be over 26Ly by that point without refuelling and after some scouring I found that Ceti Sector MX-T B3-2 should do as the intermediate point.

Second time doing that route and it all just clicked 😊

While going through my video to cut it down I notice that before going for the station entrance I often didn't boost for quite a while because I was worried it would be too late of a boost. Not doing that allowed me to keep a really tight line and then enter the station going at a reasonable speed, as wrestling the Cobra back on track once it starts drifting is tricky. The first and last entries into the stations are a little bit wide and I lose a bit of speed, but the middle three are nailed on.
I've no idea if one way if actually faster than the other, but after trying both I definitely feel that for me it's more comfortable to forgo the last boost or two. I've knocked up this video following in the vein of Alec's one and trying to find a song that was 8 1/2 minutes I ended up back at Delphic, so you get the joy of listening to them too 😊

A huge thanks to Sulu for organising what's been a cracking race to start the Championship off! Congratulations to all of the people who took part, it was brilliant to see so many new faces around and some returning after a while away from the BRC too. I hope you all had fun, maybe learnt a thing or two, and managed to improve your times.

I'm really looking forwards to the next race as I didn't get the chance to run it last time being the host. It's certainly going to be a different style.

Thanks Sulu for organising the race, had a lot of fun.
Interestingly as race went on I started listening more to the engine tone rather than focusing on the timer which I think helped me gain some time.
Next up I need to get my head around the corkscrew type approach others seem to be doing.

Looking forward to seeing the next race is a variation of the Thargoid Structure Scramble race, which I believe was my 2nd Buckyball race. Although I still struggle with high speed approaches for planetary landings.

I've uploaded my runs.

Cobra

Courier

And for a bit of fun I've uploaded my Cutter run

Thanks again for an brilliant race Sulu, and awesome to see so many new faces. Hope you'll all be back for round 2!
Good racing everyone!

I'm a little surprised that someone (and we all know who I'm talking about) didn't nip in at the last for the win, but for a change I was that person ;)

For folks who are interested I used a combination of Ashnak's distance plotting chart here and the gal map to create a little distance/route map, figured out the most efficient route and went for it, then realised one section I was expecting to be 2 jumps was 3 and from there the manual plotting al la Alec above for 10 jumps.

Couldn't reliably get the galaxy map manual plot to work so faffed there , and there's some station faceplanting at Gottlob, but If you're interested the following was the result.
Watching it back I always see places I could go new pb's.
(oh, and headlook is a massive advantage for spamming the docking requests for preferred pads as you can keep looking where you're going while memory muscling the command)

After a stewards enquiry and some fairly hefty bribes there has been a late entry into the unlimited class from Darplata94

As I was short on game time I just used the spansh tourist route plotter, which I now realise does not find the optimum racing route, so despite spending time trying to optimise the jump range of my courier I didn't find the 5 jump route, that obviously explains why I'm so slow and nothing to do with poor piloting skills at all...
Fail to prepare, prepare to fail as they say!
Thanks @Fish172 for organising a great race, and thanks to the leaders for sharing their knowledge, I'm sure I'll remember some of it next time. See you all again in May

I knew there had to be a way of getting it down to 10 jumps for the Cobra - I just couldn't find it. Using Commander's Toolbox gave me an 11-jump route straight off, so I just used that for the first couple of days and then tried looking for something better. I found it for the Imperial ships but I couldn't do it for the Cobra. Try harder next time.

(in truth, after what Sulu's been saying, I'm mostly trying to cut down the number of screenshots that I'm going to have to look at!)
Just for you, I'll enter videos 😁 Although I think I've got the hang of Imgur now, so there won't be any last-minute PMs cos I can't upload any images...

And onto the main reason for this post, I've finally done my Imperial blooper reel. Hope it's worth the wait

Oh wow! Now I understand the videos when people ask many times in a row the docking request!!! I was wondering if it was some kind of stress induced compulsive issue 🤣. It's to select a prefered pad! I wasn't even aware we could do this. Now I need to learn the layout of the station.

It's amazing how much I learned on the game with a single event. Thanks everyone for all the tips.

Lol, thanks ... although I actually prefer screenshots.

Awesome! 😆

What video editor did you use? I love what it does with the audio on the sped up sections.

I used Shotcut, with Pitch Compensation turned on. Since I switched to capturing with OBS instead of the built-in Game Bar software, I've got much better audio to work with.

It's mostly about getting a landing pad we like, but there's a lot of stress induced compulsive issues going on as well! :D

I use a print-out of this for the landing pad layout. Guaranteed Buckyball approved :)

Arrowroot's posted a link to the docking pad layout just above ^^^
(enjoyed your blooper real Arrowroot )

12, 13 and 36 are the best because they're on the long access of the docking slot and close, easy to arrive and, equally important, easy to boost straight off the pad and out.
(other options are available, I just can't remember them in the heat of a race :sneaky:)

1, 16 and 31 are the worst because they're right below the docking slot and you lose too much speed in and out.

Most races I don't have time to re-request docking permission - unless it's 1, 16 or 31. I really hate those 3. In this race there was probably too much time and I started rejecting pads I would normally have been fine with. And then racing in Large ships changed everything...
