The Buckyball Racing Club Presents: Total Recall (2nd - 17th April 3302)

Here's Aken. Great detail on the DBX model as the thrusters deploy, and the wheels of the SRV folding up to rejoin the ship. Of course the best part is the Asp crashing into the ground.

The rep-o-meter has broken out of scale. :D

And here comes the other point of view ;):

(go to 1:20 for the actual recall, and behold at 2:10 what it feels like to have the handbrake and turret deploy buttons very close to each other [where is it])

As added bonus (upload galore), here is my 33:43 run too:

A remarkable thing to note: having almost the same final time in a half-hour long race, one could think that me and furrycat converged on doing the same things in the same ways, thus achieving almost the same results. Instead, the fact that we managed a five seconds gap with completely different methods (loop approaches vs straight approaches, lithobraking vs "clean" landings, wheels in the sky vs wheels on the ground) is more like a little miracle or a great coincidence.

Thanks to everyone who came to the party, and to all the new participants who got bitten by the racing demon as it happened to me some months ago (only six months, seems like I've always been around there wrecking hulls) ;).

And thank again Alec, also for postponing the deadline of several days, giving time to my injured hand to be good enough to hold the stick with some results!

More shenanigans (reported to support).

You're technique is very similar to my own, right down to typing Zeessze into the box and misspelling it :D

Zessze..no, Zzess-no...Zeeszz-aaach...Zeesz-CRAP! I'm going to Lave anyway.

I don't know how it works for you, but when you are writing (in a hurry) with an italian "mindset", the word "Zeessze" is brutal. :D

@Khelder - found anything interesting down there? Oil? Diamonds? Alien fossils? Alien truffles?

I saved myself a lot of grief (and about 0.5 s) by discovering that only typing "zee" was enough.
Now, if only the planets name had been zee + an additional 103 random characters, I might have won...

...
It also usually happened on the fourth planet during the race. #$@&%*!

VERY funny, great soundtrack. Same thing happened to me, I need also need to report.

Great filming.
Upon closer inspection of the video footage, I can confirm that your ship actually had some attitude issues :D
Looks like the autopilot had been in the station bar!

Full video here. Skip to the following timecodes for specific parts of the run.
Good vids, thanks for sharing. Interesting techniques, I think I didn't use SRV thrusters enough. Why shields off? Seems risky! I leave mine on with 2 pips, 4 to engines. Also your galmap seems to load way quicker than mine, maybe it's network related.
Cheers:D

So shields don't stop hull damage from my poor handling skills? I should check that next time.

Yeah. They don't do a thing for impact damage. I'm really not sure what the reasoning behind that was. Even if they had have made them only moderately useful against impact damage, that would have made a little more sense.

But I don't get why turning them off should make a difference. It's not like I needed the turret either...

It probably doesn't make any difference other than my (unverified) theory that you would consume less power which would be available for faster ENG replenishment.

Actually, in this race, no difference at all. I suspect it's force of habit from the 600k Hutton Endurance rally where running out of fuel was a potential issue and therefore reducing fuel consumption by turning off all unnecessary modules was a viable tactic.

Ah yes, it would make a difference then! So there's another few seconds of lost focus that could have cost furrycat the victory...but didn't!
