We are here at gamescom 2016 with the lovely Chris Sawyer, also known as: CHIEF BEEF!
The Chief was kind enough to stop flipping burgers for a minute and tell us all about himself. Chris/Chief has been an amazing help as well as simulation games advocate during Planet Coaster's development so far. He joined us for a CHC Press Event in London and even came to the Frontier studio to advise on costume animation. Chris also did an incredible 24 hour long livestream for charity (MacMillan) and raised over £1100,- by playing Planet Coaster non-stop!
Behind the burger, Chris works at Alton Towers as a Costume Animator; therefore, we felt that it would only be natural for him to take on the character of Chief Beef. "I just tried to bring him to life as best as I could," says Chris. "Sometimes you see animators and they aren't moving or engaging, so it was important to me to make Chief look like he does to so many people who've been playing the game - in the way he moves, reacts, and makes people smile. When I put on the costume, it just all happened naturally; I knew his animations and I tried to replicate them to the best of my ability - I even managed to flip and twirl his spatula!"
But how does it actually feel to be inside a massive burger suit? "Well, it's obviously very hot in there," Chris smiles, "but thankfully I have a little fan on the inside that keeps it manageable for some time. You have tunnel vision so I relied on Bo to guide me around the booth a bit! The costume itself is not too heavy, except for the hat; it shifts your balance and that increases the weight on my shoulders. So it's quite the physical challenge and I can't be in it longer that 35 minutes, but it's so worth it to see everyone's smiles and happy faces as they take pictures and dance around with me on the showfloor."
Since Chris also runs the Theme Park Simulation Games group on Facebook aside from his day job, so he didn't have a lot of time to actually play Planet Coaster as much as he would like recently. Lucky for him, he had access to Alpha 3 here at gamescom, and it brought his passion for the game straight back to him: "The game looks amazing! I played around with some new coasters yesterday and had a blast trying out different track pieces, the coaster editor, and designing a little park. I'm also very stoked about the Fairytale theme; it looks incredible and I can't wait to start building castles and moats!"
We can't thank Chris enough for his time and dedication to both Frontier and Planet Coaster, and are also happy to announce he will be the first official Planet Coaster Ambassador! In Chief Beef we believe!
#chiefbeefbelief. Thanks Chris!
