The Chieftain

So... I thought I'd try out the new ship! It looks fantastic, based on what little I've seen. However, I'm not certain where to find it. Worse, what I've seen suggests there are only 5 internal compartments (not including the military ones). This makes me want to pull out my hair. Only 5 compartments?!? That's not enough! I wanted to use the ship as an explorer, but there's not enough internal spaces for the necessary gear!

1. Shield Generator
2. Discovery Scanner
3. Surface Scanner
4. Fuel Scoop
5. SRV Bay

6. Cargo Bay

(7. Fuel Tank - optional, but VERY useful)

It's all nice and good having special military compartments, but they aren't needed by explorers, and limit the versatility of what would otherwise be a fantastic ship! I hope that they adjust this, and give us another internal space, or change one of the military spaces to a general use space.

DBX

Asp.

'Splora Conda.

The Frog wants to fight.

ARRRRRRRRGH!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!! This is a ship spedcifically designed to fight Thargoids. It isw not an explorer or trader or anything else. Period!!!

'm exploring, sometimes I have to collect bits I find out there... especially escape pods.

I see. Thought so. I ignore those, but I know some like to bring them home. The only way would be to go shieldless. The chieftain was made with combat in mind, so is very light on flexibility outside of that. Still managed to mine some stuff for a mission yesterday. :D

So what was the purpose of the T10? Was that a failed attempt at a Thargoid suppression vessel?

For the life of me I cannot get excited about fighting space flowers.

What people are missing is that, yes it's a combat ship, but it's built from the Diamondback Explorer... and it's easily one of the best looking ships in the game. Perhaps what's needed is a non-combat variant?

'd be quite happy to fight them, but I'm not able to. I can't even target the basilisks and medusas, and my only encounter with the little scouts was being outnumbered 20-1, so there's been no way for me to do anything with the thargoids other than just looking at them.

Yet it’s outperformed in this role by all the federal clothes irons due to only being able to mount 3 AX/guardian weapons. It is very nice at killing other human ships though.

There is no indication that the aChief has been developed from the BDX, none. Even granting that notion, it was developed as a combat ship. Use the DBX.

Those 'Goid Scouts can be destroyed using common weapons. The aChief's strong hull makes it perfect for this use, even with conventional weapons, because it can withstand the caustic/corrosive weapons they use.

I might use the DBX, except that it's butt-ugly. The Chieftain is gorgeous. As for being designed from the DBX, just look at it, look at the cockpit. The general shape of the body and canopy and everything is all DBX.

How dare you say the DBX is ugly. One of the better looking ships in my view, and far better then the AspX.

As to the OP. Its a combat ship. To explore you will need to compromise on something.

Lakon is Lakon. Why would they design a ship that doesn't resemble a ship they designed? Other than the maker, I don't see many similarities. Especially in the cockpit. The DBX's looks like a machine tool, where the aChief's looks like a computer workstation. Either way, it wasn't developed as an explorer.

I'm not a fan of the Asp either, actually. I usually use a Keelback for exploring, but I've recently rekitted my Federal Dropship for the job... It actually doesn't do badly with an engineered frame shifter and extra fuel.
