The Circumnavigation of Mercury

Done! Complete! Finished! Now for the polar circumnavigation - NOT. It's off to the physiotherapist and ophthalmologist for me.
Bravo Cmdr Linton, that's a hell of an achievement! It was a real pleasure to be part of the little group that shared the last degree with you!

Here's a photo of Andrew (circled) parked exactly back where he started a month ago.

Thanks to all for the encouragement that kept me going; it helped enormously.

Six weeks ago, when I boldly rashly suggested I might attempt the circumnavigation of Mercury, someone in the Fleetcomm Discord asked me how many times I would need to refuel. I said I'd let him know, thereby committing myself to the project. I've just pulled these details from the journal:

Synthesis and Mining.png

I was able to replace all of the Basic synthesis materials as I went along; as I explained along the way I didn't want to deplete the materials I couldn't replace, but at times Premium repair seemed prudent, as when entering the crater which I named Utrillo.

The project took 40 days to complete but I expect somebody with more skill could complete it faster.

I now have a pain in my left shoulder that will take a few weeks to dissipate; I felt every thump of the SRV and braced for impact every 30 seconds. However, IT WAS WORTH IT.

FOR SALE: Offers over 1Cr, Scarab SRV, Iridescent Gleam, 15,329 km on the clock, one careless owner, buyer collects from (0,-110) on Mercury.

Here's a short video of the last degree using the footage I filmed on Saturday.

Thanks for releasing that great video. (y) I'd like to know which software you use for video editing.

I'll have to put something together myself, if for nothing else then to show that it wasn't all bouncing merrily over sand dunes in a chopped-down VW buggy. :D

Actually I just use Windows Movie maker. It used to free (and I think you can still track down the Windows Live Essentials package that it came with) so I just have it around. I believe there are some far better (free) video editing tools around and it's on my todo list to pick the best and learn how to use it. I think something called VSDC was on my shortlist. Also ..

To be honest all I do with Movie Maker is split my recordings, trim the start and end, cut out and/or speed up any dull bits, fade in the start, fade out the end, add a soundtrack and occasionally add sub-titles. You really don't need much more than that.

What an epic journey, congratulations! Having recently got back into exploration I was reading through threads and found this one.....read it from page 1 until the end! A truly monstrous undertaking, and the nighttime driving didn't seem to slow you down at all. Very well done!
