The 'Clear Save' feature

Hello commanders.

In light of today's announcement, I am one of those people who would like to start afresh (as when the world was new) and begin the game again.

To that end, I was wondering if anyone actually knows what this 'clear save' feature does?

For example, I'm sure many of us have additional ships as part of our Kickstarter backing etc (and 1,000 credits starting money). Does the clear save wipe all that away and start you off (for example) at Lave, docked with a sidewinder and 100 credits? That's the kind of thing I'm hoping for but has anyone actually tried it yet?

ps: Will obviously try it out when I get home!

I believe it starts you again with all counters to zero and the starting options you had when you last setup.

Did it the other day - will do again later.

It is my understanding that whenever you do a clear save, you have all of the starting options that you had the first time.

I did this earlier when I relised I had completely cocked up the reputation thingy!.

It is a complete reset allowing you to start form scratch at one of your KS positions or in a Sidey with 100cr.

You lose your old Commander.

Many thanks!

EDIT: I'm home and you are all correct! The only slight annoyance is that the starting position is randomised....and I was hoping to start off in a set location so that I could meet up with some fellow commanders. I guess we will have to fly off into the darkness and try and rendezvous up!

I've noticed it isn't always random, I am currently trying to restart at a friend's location and i keep starting in the same place.

Random doesn't mean always different. Like rolling three sixes in a row doesn't mean dice rolling isn't random. It'd be weird if it wasn't the same sometimes.

For what its worth I shall be doing a clear save on the game official release on the 16th of Dec. No other reason than I want to start the game with as many new people as possible, in the same scenarios and whatnot. Personal choice and all that.

I have never pressed the clear save function, so if it is there I apologise, however.

how easy is it to clear your save? I know it may sound an unlikely issue but given some people will be putting multiple hundreds of hrs into this game, I would like a feature where when you clear your save it asks you for your frontier log in password.

Could you imagine if your twerp of a little brother/sister/drunken mate decided to delete your save just for "lolz!".

My possibly paranoid fear of online games like this is the lack of an option to have multiple back ups of saves.

The number of times I have had a save corrupted, or something weird had happened an I have disastrously screwed my save up but been "saved" from complete horror due to a back up save made previously means that any game where you invest a huge number of hrs in, I am never completely comfortable having no "plan B" if something goes horribly wrong!.

There is a confirmation box when you want to delete your save, but it doesn't require your account login, so your concern is probably justified.

If your save was to be 'accidentally' cleared, there might be the possibility of issuing a ticket to restore the save if it is not discarded on the server right away, but there is no guarantee about that as far as I know.
