The Core of the Galaxy

I haven't seen it but some commanders have reported that the extra fuel tanks mass means that when plotting a route this affects the longest range distance used.

There is nowhere on the bubble/sag a route where you won't be able to hit a scoop able star within 10 ly, so IMHO extra tanks aren't needed.

What gets boring fast is waiting for a plot to appear (so have the best jump range you can) scooping, so get the best scoop you can too.

i'm nearly home in my hauler, if I jump, honk, scoop, jump only I can manage around 1.5kylies an hour.

If you want max return:- Jump, honk, open system map, scan atmosphere worlds & gas giants, stars etc, then scoop and jump out. Depending on the size of the system this could take you 5 mins or 30 mins. You have to manually target a world and teen wait for the scan to complete if you have a surface scanner.

there's a pdf somewhere here that shows what's worth it.

Finally I would rebind (if you can I am PC) gal map, system map, target ahead and next jump on route to be easily accessible as these are the ones you will be using most.

Good hunting!

Probably going to give ethelred's Hauler build a try since I am really close to being able to afford it. How much money can you really get be exploring? Also does the surface scanner work the same way as the discovery scanner?

A 6 week trip for me yielded 88million credits. I did happen to be pointed to a neutron star field right above my head (credit BongoBaggins!) on the way there. I also found a neutron star / black hole field on the way back (all by myself :) ) which helped!

...ummm...what? (insert drooling face here)

Is this a joke or you're for real?? Can someone please elaborate on this? Got me intrigued!!

Bah pulling his chain, all but the dementia part! Spoken to maybe 3 other people on here all said the same including me, there is a mental issue to surpass when exploring, you either have to really love it or you will doubt whether its really worth doing, I went to the core because I was bored with the bubble, I didn't do it out of enjoyment or for money, but as an alternative to the daily gubbings of populated space, it can last months if you want it too, I did the return trip in 6 days, made 22m, and a further 24m from the CG 3 weeks back when I sold my data, I will pick it up again for sure, but I dont have any desire to venture further than maybe 5 kylies. Next time will be to solely push up my explorer rank.

I'm looking forward to proper exploring, you know... landing on stuff and looking around, as opposed to dropping in, honking the ADS and flying out again...

now with the surface scanner you target the planet in the sys map but do I also need to be within a certain range of the planet?

Whenever you select a body and scan it while flying in super-cruise a detailed surface scan is performed. The system map is where you can review details about the celestial body you have scanned.

You do... and the scannable range with the detail surface scanner to each body in a system varies depending on planetary mass. Small metallic planets you have to be reasonably close, 60-20LS or so...suns are 3000LS or closer, gas giants average below 1000LS... all dependent on mass of course :)

...ummm...what? (insert drooling face here)

Beat advice someone gave me (Credit BongoBaggins again) is that when you start up your game and appear in 'real space', line up for your jump, begin the countdown and turn off your Flight Assist - this will make sure that when you enter the new systems in super cruise you will be at 0 throttle (so 30km/sec) - this will make sure you don't go shooting off into any Neutron Stars and turn into Bacon fat!

I've been to the other side of the galaxy.
I've been to Photoshop. Fixed your sig.

Sounds pretty tedious. Is it worth it trying to scan everything?

Thanks for the tip! I do often try to avoid being bacon-fatinated when possible :p

Don't go scanning moons, floating rocks or asteroid belts, you'll get very little for it. Just stick to interesting looking planets and gas giants and it get's less tedious :)

That makes sense to me. Can't wait to get out there and see some crazy shtuff. If i am the first to discover something will it show my name on it or is that only on PC? Or is this just a myth i've heard?

Yup, you'll get your name up there... be aware you might have to fly a long way to find that undiscovered place :)
