The creators of ED, lose control of the galaxy

Is it possible ? Uncontrolled invasion of Thargoïd. Uncontrolled contagious epidemic. Triggering events following the actions of the players and unexpected reactions in series ? Certainly other possibilities of loss of control ... Perhaps the loss of control of the galaxy is impossible? And the game stays, within the limits set by the creators, to stay playable.

As I understand it, once FD set it up, the galaxy events could generate automatically (I am sure Frontier don't want to have people sat there 24/7 making things happen) but they have designed it so they can step in and manually generate an event if they want to.

So maybe it is possible that an alien invasion happens automatically ... or a disease spreads uncontrolled ... only Frontier know at this stage what the game can and can't do

That would be fascinating if it did happen, ED goes all skynet and attempts to take over the world. :D

I believe this is one of the things they are most interested in besides the exploration factor. You can hear them say on several occasions that they are looking forward in seeing the galaxy unfold. I can't however suppress the feeling that they will have some sort of monitoring capabilities that tell them a lot more on what is going on in the galaxy that we will ever know.

For instance... if the galaxy is seeded with only a few intelligent lifeforms and one of them (which is away from explored space so out of our sights) would start spreading like locust, FD will probably be in control an will notice. They will probably be able to pull the plug on them if they would want to. I do think that they would try to have these kind of things to evolve in as much a "natural" way as possible. But if they find out that the locust behaviour is due to a programming error it is their "hand of God" that is allowed to correct that and eradicate them from existance :D (Mwhuahahahah!)

From this thread...

INJECTED EVENTS AND INTERVENTION
Events that affect entities can be injected into the game that can directly change an entity’s statistics. This mechanism can be used to add specific events to the game, like civil wars, economic collapse and major story items.

Intervention messages are a failsafe in the system. When an entity’s stats reach set levels (a minimum and a maximum) a message is sent to whoever is monitoring the galaxy highlighting possible collapse or expansion opportunities. They can then be used to manually add events as desired.

So it seems they will have someone monitoring potentially big changes in the galaxy and deciding what happens rather than letting it develop 100% programmatically.

I guess if it is a programming error then they have to do is pull the plug on any unwanted changes as it could balance the ED universe, but I imagine if it is a developing occurrence and not a programming error then they would let it roll!

I love the sound of this!

Uncontrolled thargon epedemic incoming! And here's me wondering what happened to the mothership. I knew it was parked somewhere!

Always used to call them tharglets myself. Although thargons sounds more menacing, tharglets makes them sort of cute.
