The Crusader - The Pilot

I really don't get Ship reviews that bemoan an SLF variant for "just being worse with SLF added" . . . yes? And? Clearly the point of the Crusader is being able to fly a Chieftain whilst enjoying SLF, and some balancing must be done.

The Crusader's niche is being capable of close range brawling, like the Chieftain, but with an SLF. If this role isn't explored, you don't understand the Crusader in my opinion.
FGS is tankier and has more firepower, but a close range brawler it is not. The Krait Mk2 is faster and has more firepower, but it is also not a close range brawler. For the kind of Weapon loadouts I enjoy, the Crusader is superior to it's Medium SLF competitors.

P.S. Pineapple pizza rules. Just needs pepperoni and jalapenos/hot sauce. 😉

I'll do you one better:

Jalepeno Awesome Sauce
4-5 Jalepenos w/some seeds
1 1/2 Cups of Sour Cream
5 Cloves of Garlic
Two Handfulls of Cilantro
1/2 Tablespoon of Acid (Rice Vinegar, etc.)
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
Salt to Taste

Add Sour Cream to blender, food processor, or immersion blender.
Add ingredients one at a time, and pulse repeatedly to begin.
Spiciness controlled by amount of seeds added.

This is Mrs.Pilot's recipe. It's epic. And yes, I had to ask for permission to post this.

The Alliance Crusader meh.
Actually it could be the slogan for the whole Alliance really.
If only looks could kill then it wouldn't need to blow out the cockpit as often to finish you off.

I like this ship. It's cheap, a lot cheaper than Krait, looks good, quite tanky and imho much more to fun to fly than FGS that is sluggish. A good option for commanders with tight budget who would like to try a ship with SLF's and greater firepower then Keelback. An A-rated combat Crusader can be completed under 50 millions credits with rebates.
I'm using my Crusader in Pleiades and I plan to buy another one for bounty hunting.

I have one of these. Before I set off on DW2, I knew I'd be stopping off at Colonia, and I didn't want to use a fragile exploration ship to unlock Mel Brandon (and I also wanted to give my copilot a bit more experience, and give my two new alts some starting cash via multicrew).

The Crusader ticked all the boxes, I kitted one out in the Bubble for less than 50m (cutting a few corners) and transferred it to Colonia. It did the job, and I've since added it to the set of cheap ships that I transfer-in to wherever I'm currently operating from.

A Krait II would have been more expensive to buy and also more expensive to transfer. I have three cytos in the small hardpoints, so shields don't last long.

As many have said before...the military slots really gimp the whole lineup, albeit the Chieftain and Challenger are both capable combat ships with them.

I have to wonder if the solution to military slots isn't their removal (something I personally am ok with) but, rather, there were more beneficial modules for combat vessels that go beyond raw stats. Automatic reloaders, ammo storage, SLF or SRV buffs for combat...right now, the modules are checks notes...

Good for increasing hit points.

That's kind of lame.

Bad idea #1: just buff combat ships the missing hull hit points in their shields and/or hull and call it a day.
Bad Idea #2: Use military slots for something other than hit points...like agility increases, or stronger interdiction, or just open the slots.
Bad Idea #3: Stop using optional internals for balancing entirely. Give raw stat increases/decreases and leave options for what the name implies: options.
