The death of a game...

I've noticed a trend in the past throughout the different ménage of games I've played in my life. From NES Super Mario Bros and Dragon Warrior, to the games of today and Elite Dangerous. I do this on occasion, notice patterns of behavior. And (hate starting a sentence with "and") I have noticed this game following an all too familiar pattern of behavior. The moderators of this forum helped me identify the pattern, so I want to tip my hat to them before getting too deep into this. Lately I have seen an above average number of "hot-headed" actions taken by moderators, not only on myself, but against the community as a whole. Threads being hastily moved, locked for anonymous reasons, and an alarming level of infractions being dished out across the board. This leads me to believe that the FDEV personnel is on edge for some unknown (to us) reason.

The last UPDATE was atrocious! Hands down, in my 30 years of video gaming, I have never 'personally' seen any other update do so much damage to its game, ever. The sheer level and volume, and magnitude of bugs introduced was astonishing (I am a PS4 player and understand that other platforms weren't as bad). Then the push-back of any new content for 18 months, the quality of content already received, and the increased tension of the moderator behavior on these forums are all observable, denotable facts that no one can deny.

For the second time inside a 3 month period the full content of the game is on sale for less than the original price of the vanilla content.

Not to mention, the poor performance of Elite on PS4 lately, for example: while out in the last CG (this is next) I noticed that opening the Galaxy map (to plot a route), it lags so badly that on multiple occasions the game HARD-LOCKED and I had to turn off the system. While defending our Home system from PVP'ers, once the instance numbers reached 8+ players, framerate began to drop alarmingly low. And the Galaxy Backdrop won't even fully load once you get within 10k of the Core because the star density gets too high. It begins to show cubes and star patterns, or your current ship's pattern of stars on the backdrop.

The removal of Community Goals, for whatever reason is a huge red-flag for me as well. It's almost as if FDEV has grown to disdain it's own Community. On every facet of it's game.

All of these things leads me to conclude that there is obviously something happening regarding ED behind the scenes that FDEV personnel are aware of, and are unable to express to the community. It feels like 'cut-backs'. Cut-backs to all of the aforementioned game aspects. It makes me wonder if Elite Dangerous is being 'cut-back' all together.

Please share YOUR thoughts of my observations, before this gets locked, or moved.

And, (sorry, I had to.)

The moderators are just gamers like us and volunteer to do a largely thankless job. They reflect us, rather than FD. Nobody knows what FD are thinking. I doubt that even FD does.

The game isn't near death. We just had a major update and the kinks are being worked out. I admit that I can't bring myself to open the game right now, but that's just me. I'm taking a well needed break and doing more important things with my time.

When I have nothing particularly productive to do, I'll most likely fire the game back up and enjoy it for a few hours.

Yeah, you and I are just burned out. A lot of us are. We'll be back, though. Hopefully some of the worst bugs will be mitigated by then. In the mean time, there's fun to be had elsewhere.

And + 5 rep. (Yeah, it's 5 now. Until the new forums go live.)

Moderators are mostly volunteers and largely not Frontier employees, right?
I don't think they are feeling heightened levels of stress from within the company.

Yea thats right.

Also Elites been going through this for a long time and it still continues. It will not change unless David decides he doesnt like Elite anymore.

Doomed again. Now I haz a sad.

Last update included some very nice options that I put to use: Mining and (currently) exploring. Used to be that I'd set myself a destination a long way out and go there. Along the way I'd honk and notice lots of rocks. I had a choice to either spend an hour in SC examining each of them or just take the cheap "honk" and continue on. Now I have the best of both worlds with the FSS (scan an entire system within 7 minutes then continue on). Mining with the new equipment is more interesting and provides more profit.

Sorry, but I don't see (1) the bugs or (2) the doom. Your mileage may vary.

Really ?, but I've read exactly the same thread at least weekly for years now.

You need a gimmick to make your DOOM ! stand out from the crowd. Maybe a catchphrase or an eye watering font color.

I see your point... maybe I should've titles it "RAXXLA & RELIGIOUS FREEDOM"

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Responding to what I can actually speak to:

-I'm not feeling pressure from FD. I'm not employed by them, I'm a volunteer. If they pressured me I'd just stop doing this. I don't need a second job. They expect mods to help enforce the rules as they see fit and if we do not execute that responsibility to their linking they find someone who will. That brings up the question: 'why do I do this?' I love this community and like to think through my volunteering as a mod I'm giving back in a small way by helping keep this forum a nice place for everyone to hang out. I'm also giving back to Frontier for helping to create something that gives me a lot of joy. I don't do it to feel superior or to lord over other posters. If a mod starts doing that they're not going to be a mod for long. FDev won't tolerate little forum dictators angering their customers.

-Threads being hastily 'moved, locked for anonymous reasons' : If you have concerns with how the mods handle rule enforcement there is a procedure for letting FDev know. It's in the rules thread here on the forum.

-'alarming level of infractions being dished out across the board' : I'd very much like to know what data you have to back that up, as infraction counts are not public information.
