The Definitive Stealth Guide!

It worked for me a few days ago; you've got to be a fair distance from any system the bounty-issuing faction has a presence at though. I think it's a 20LY minimum.

So this certainly doesn't work. I travelled 40 LY away from the system where i got the bounties, into an independent anarchy system. It let me pay the local bounty off (the one I got from the faction within the system), but not the one below - it just doesn't show up in any option to pay it off.

Note again that this is NOT a bounty from a minor faction. I can pay those off just fine.

I guess next time I'll have to jump back to Horizons and pay it off, then back into Odyssey.

My friend said this too. Looks like it's some new bug. Or it's by design but no one knows what it is.

Thanks for this great guide.

I did a "Non Violent Heist" mission today which required me to infiltrate an Industrial site without raising alarms or killing anyone, and steal a sample.

I was able to do it, because I understood how stealth works, and that's because of your guide.

I'm on the road to Master Thief, or something.

Anyway it sure was fun.

Amazing :)

I'm planning to do my third guide this weekend and it'll be based on Heist type missions in general. I reckon quite a few might find it useful with Terra's unlocks being pretty fresh still.

If I recall, once a bounty goes interstellar, you can't pay it off.
Per the C&P revamp from a few years back.

If you can pay it off, perhaps you need to pay it off out of Federation jurisditcion.

@Jmanis - were you able to pay off your Imperial Bounty outside of Imperial space?

@Zombi3
Since you currently cannot pay bounties and fines at an IF if the faction has a presence in the same system, I am guessing that Interstellar Bounties follow the same rule, i.e. you must leave federation space if you are going to clear it.

Interstellar Bounties
  • Superpowers will issue Interstellar bounties against Commanders that continually transgress against factions aligned with them.
  • An Interstellar bounty is issued once the credit value for all appropriate bounties and fines breaches a certain threshold.
  • Interstellar bounties are valid in every jurisdiction controlled by a faction aligned with the superpower.

It seems to be fixed now mate - for a week now, after the update before last. I've not had any bounty paying issues since then thankfully.

And as per my previous posts - I travelled to Imp and Alliance space to test all that out but it didn't work. It was knackered 100% sure of it.

Thanks for the new guide, very informative. I've yet to try a Heist, but I did manage an Espionage mission that required me to access the level 3 security area and download some data. It was quite challenging to find a way up there without arousing suspicion, but hey, I've seen the Ultimate Guide, so yeah. I succeeded :)

Several of my ships have bounties that I can't pay off. :-/ Pretty sure ships aren't even supposed to have bounties anymore. So it's kind of annoying.

They aren't supposed to have them any more.
You're 100% clean everywhere and they're still showing up as dirty?

Yep. My CMDR is a no-bones-about-it criminal. When I walk into Interstellar Factors, they practically shout "NORM!" And Cliff buys me a beer.
I've tried clearing my bounties and fines- no go. I've tried dying on foot. No go. I've tried getting a new bounty and then dying with that different bounty. Nope. I've taken the ships with bounties to IF. Nothing to clear.
But they have bounties on ship select and it still charges me a premium to move them around, etc. And my notoriety is 0 for these tests.

I could try getting the ships blown up but I don't think I care enough, really. Aside from the premium on moving them, eh.

Nah, submit a ticket. I did a test and when you go clean with a faction, your ship is supposed to go clean with that faction, too.
So if you're going clean with everyone, your ships should be clean everywhere.

Same, BTW. Criminal gameplay is so much fun.

I would, normally. But I think they've got enough on their plate. Like, I just found out that Enforcer Cannons won't fire unless your ship is facing about 30 degrees off vector. (Maybe only applies to the Cobra MKIII.) That's irrespective of flying with FA ON or OFF, so Flight Assist Pilots literally cannot use them at all? Could be the Reaver Ship Kit?

I dunno, man. Seems like a ship with a phantom bounty is the least of their problems. lol.

I'm guessing ship kit - if it blocks incoming damage, it probably blocks LOS as well.

lol - this game

No your right they did not have collision detection until Odyssey- they enabled it so you can walk on them. Shame that they did not test things like weapons and lights first.

I would submit a ticket - it really does need fixing - just like the bulk of Odyssey in genera! :(
