Ships The Dolphin Elite Club

I'm feeling a little lack of Phin love on the forums, I expected this ship to be popping up on screenshots in front of everything but it all seams relatively quiet and pods of Dolphins are hiding and not swimming about en-mass as expected.

Even Inara says it has a little user base with even fewer using it as their main ship

So are you flying it around as your main ship, are you part of the Dolphin Elite Club or did you buy one and stick it in storage?? :x or is it just a stop gap until you buy something bigger?

with over a billion in assets this is by far my favourite ship [big grin] and I was wondering if anyone else is permanently residing in a Phin?

if you are indeed flying it around I would like proof ;) in the form of Dolphin in front of X to dilute the asp screenshots on this forum :)

Well, out exploring with my Phin for 2 months now, SW from SOL.

Before going into the black again I did some passenger missions for maybe 500M (or more) - i am not logging all this. Guess that counts for being my main ship since it was released. It is a fantastic little ship.

I left the bubble the day 2.3 was released in mine :) glad to see others are hanging around in their dolphins, (mine looks rather shabby now after the long trek!!!)

I went SW, then NW, then Beagle, ishums, Then East, SE, SW, S, and now im somewhere north west of Sag A, my route looks like a crayon scribbling on paper...

I've got one sitting on the parkinglot. Haven't invested in bigger passangerships yet and might even later keep it for illegals. I think it's a great ship with the fast yaw and roll aswell as good speed. Sounds nice too. It's really small but affordable. Mine jumps 22Ly which is good for trips around the bubble. Wouldn't want to miss it. Made 15 million or more in it today driving around rich tourists. For me it's a space-taxi.

Maybe i should kiss the idea to fly outside the bubble withit goodby and fit in that size 2 slot instead of the fuelscoop another fueltank ... or better a surface scanner? One more size 1 slot would make it even better because right now i can't even fit a module reinforcement in. Well, maybe i have to rethink the size of my passanger-cabins?

Yeah, good ship in some areas, limitations in others. That being so underused isn't justified imo. But look, beluga and orca also far down on the list. People don't run passangers? Why? I'm earning more on passangers than anywhere else i found out today. Especially thanks to explorationdata. I don't understand what's going on? Why aren't people running these golden ships? So many credits to be made with it. Everyone just suicide-wind-scanning in quince and buying anacondas, eh?

As a main ship, i don't know unless you're a taxidriver in the bubble, then that's what you use of course. I tend to change my ships daily. Have 30 now. Today the dolphin made more than the T7 yesterday.

Here is proof not even 24 hours ago these pictures were taken:

I love my Dolphin! Had it for a while now, and I've gotta say it was a huge contributor towards getting my Python and I use it every time the credit balance gets a little low. So much money to be made hauling people only a jump or two away. Definitely paid for itself a million times over, so I'm really surprised more people haven't jumped on it!

Mine is all set to go. After this CG I'll find some passengers (maybe out as far as Colonia) and head out:

Great pics,

been in mine as main ship since launch, and it took me to beagle and back and most of the galaxy, a fine ship :)

Although I cant wait to land to repair the paint, looking a little scabby now

Another Dolphin fan here

I don't know that I'd classify my Dolphin as my "main" ship but I certainly fly her a lot. I primarily fly my Dolphin for local passenger missions but I've decided to take her on a long range passenger mission; I'm currently 8400LY outside the bubble. She's been great and I'll post some pictures when I have some worth posting. ;)

I use mine as my main ship, love flying her! She handles like a dream.
Grade 3 RNG thrusters 453 boost and very maneuverable especially in SC, so almost no interdictions. No great rolls on the fsd yet but still 25ly. Working on mats for grade 5 RNG then heading out.
Definetly a money maker with passenger runs but I use for everything, planetary scans etc. Hauling to Maia right now for the CG there.
I've not messed with the camera suite yet and I don't know how to screen shot on XBO but will try later. Maybe someone can give some time saving hints.
I have know I idea why it is not used more.
Maybe if it had more "teeth", perhaps I'll have to experiment with a combat load out.

One of my favourite things about the dolphin is how well suited she is for planetary landings.

It seems every man and his dog has an Asp Explorer: although I have one. My main ship at the moment is a Dolphin and currently doing passenger missions around Colonia. With the rest of my fleet being in the bubble I will be flying the Dolphin for the foreseeable. I will aim to get a screenshot up later, recently changed the paintwork to reflect the rest of my fleet. I have two favourite ships and the Dolphin is one of them, although the thing I don't like about it is the lack of hard points and tiny fuel tank compared to my Diamondback Explorer.

sooo...

hull packet usesless?

I wan e explore, so after getting the hauler as first steppingstone my next target is our most beloved space .

But i hate people so I will defo not add a passenger cabin. Dont want to have the urge to jump into a sun because some passenger got prometheus-syndrom
So, dear cmds, is the hull package a better deal
or should I just add a cargo rack?

anyone a nice explorolfin build (i assume it around 6,7 mil creds) so that i know on how much creds I will have to work when I finally get the game in a week?

I just put in a cargo rack, I didn't want riff raff floating around my ship either when I was travelling, mine cost 12million, but I did spend 4million on a 4a afmu which isn't essential, you can go for a D spec for cheaper :) I have a thread about the wonderful dolphin explorer here;

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/342586-Chasing-Krill-Around-the-Galaxy-A-KM-Expedition

well i assume it will take a while until I not only have the money but grokk the engineering system at all.
I'm pretty sure i will play in moebius for a start until I feel comfortable enough, but before that even npc will feel scary, I'm sure. *lol*
I also assume that having some cargo will make npc pirates attack you, so that would speak against a cargo rack (because as you know, if its lying around its harder to justify to not use it.).. so..caro rack could motivate me taking in cargo which would make me into a target.
but thicker hull makes shorter jumps...

eh but it's all conjecture atm.. the first explorer ship will be the trusty sidey..
THAT will be fun XD
