Polygons don't just drop by themselves.
It was obviously intentional.

They call it "a bug" to appease the relentless angry masses of this forum.

As someone who used to work in 3d modeling, unnecessary tris/quads on a model bugged me to no forseeable end. I've seen far too many walls that are encompassed with 256+ faces that only need one because they only need a flat white plaster texture on them instead of some massive detailed mosaic or something. These games commonly have performance issues.

That's what happens when the designer decides to throw in a Plane primitive from the editor instead of asking the 3D guy to do it. hah.

I think the reason people call it worse is because, despite no change in quality, it feels worse. In my opinion, that's because the additional content, while technically impressive and even fun in the moment, doesn't feel like it's connected to the rest of the game content.

Engineering gives you more toys to play with, but when you're hunting for mats, it's all you do and it takes time away from everything else. If you do Power Play, it's its own reward and it's all you do. If you do multi-crew, it's all you do.

Of course, all earn you some credits, so it's not all completely disconnected... but it takes time from the other activities because they're not organically connected. The more semi-independent subsystems are added, the more thinly spread your game time becomes. And the game has great moments - the problem is that the additional content is not that rewarding and dilutes the great moments.

Just imagine if Power Play actually bought you rank progression with Fed/Empire/Alliance and improved your standing with select Engineers. Instead of ferrying PCAs around, you get Power-specific transport mission with different cargo to different places where chained missions then kick in. Maybe even multi-crew with NPCs as mission - flying as fighter pilot for an NPC convoy! None of these things mentioned are new, it's just chaining them together in a new way that makes missions, engineers, multi-crew, fighters, power play all lead into each other and hence encouraging (and rewarding) experimenting with all the mechanics.

Rep'd because I think this is a fantastic idea, though sadly I'm not sure we'll see anything like this implemented.

And I think that's the crux of the problem, many of us can see that ED has a good foundation to build some truly cool stuff on such as the above suggestion. We see it's potential and want it to fulfil it.

I don't want another space game, I don't want SC, I don't want NMS, I want ED and I want it to be good because I think ED failing would be one of the saddest days in the history of gaming.

I know there's something special there just waiting, like the finest marble slab waiting for an artist to have the vision to turn it into a beautiful sculpture but, given what I've seen, I truly fear it will remain a slab and that makes me truly sad.

I know I've poked the anthill a bit in my previous two posts to this thread, but I'm going to try and inject some rationality.

First the obligatory disclaimer: I like ED. The game suits me.

I'm not a fanboy, though, like many others on this forum that like the game I still call it as I see it when FD have dropped an eggy one. Most recently the execrable state of both ship names and the anaconda cockpit, but I've given FD a pretty hard time on quite a few other aspects of the game where I actually believed I knew what I was talking about.

There are three groups of people on both this forum and on other discussion platforms out there such as reddit who I would urge FD to NOT listen to. Ever. The first two such groups are easily recognizable. One never posts anything but gripes or refutations of positive comments. I plonk those guys myself. They are contributing nothing of value, because they are just knocking everything. The second recognizable group is the firsts mirror image, only ever posting positive comments or refutations of negative ones. I'm not saying FD should ignore either of these two groups altogether, but count the posters not the posts, and do it on here where they stand at least a chance of identifying sock-puppet accounts rather than on a forum FD don't control.

The third group is a little more insidious. They are the internet meta-warriors. They are good at finding all sorts of arguments in favor of "whatever makes me and my buddies the top dogs in the game". This group FD SHOULD completely ignore. Not bother listening or counting their numbers because they are NOT trying to improve the game, they are trying to manipulate FD into giving them (or letting them keep, in some cases) an advantage that FDs design never envisioned them having. Some are even aiming for the fundamental nature of the game to change in order to suit themselves.

In the middle, with the two extremes chopped off and the disingenuous removed is where FD will find the opinions worth listening to. And that middle is rarely found on reddit.

What's the point of adding smuggling to the list of multicrew activities when it can't benefit from ANYTHING multicrew introduced?

There's a lot of people on reddit who are unhappy about the current version of Elite Dangerous. This is not good marketing or publicity for ED. Their opinions, even if you disagree, should not be dismissed or ignored by Frontier.

Don't tell the kids about the wider communities dislike of the patch, it will upset them. Shhh, let them sleep.

You know what's really funny about this thread whining about people complaining? FDev are now actively monitoring that first linked post looking for feedback. Thanks for the forum exposure, folks. Sometimes this place seems a little too insular.

I hope to hell they do start listening more. The past year hasn't given me much hope.

Also just want to plant a flag here.

I love you all (well minus 2 I blocked) and I love Elite which is why I complain the way I do. If I didn't care I wouldn't even be here (or in-game right now). This is growing pains for all of us.

They released the game exactly as they do with all the updates. Unfinished and full of problems. What's worse is that with each new update they focus on the wrong content. So it's better not to have much hope.

These forums are way saltier. Honestly Im so sick of it. At least on reddit people can vote so its only 50% nasty. Here its just every single thread.
