News The Elite Dangerous Beta FAQ Thread

What joystick do you have? Have you tried the different Joystick configurations available in the Options section? If there is one to match your joystick, then that's a good place to start.

The ship takes a little while to come to a stop because it has to apply the thrusters the stop the ship.

Yes, you can coast by turning Flight Assists to OFF. You can bind a key or joystick button to that function. So if you apply full throttle to get to full speed, you can then turn Flight Assists off and the ship will continue at the same speed - even after you set the throttle back to zero.

My joystick isn't on the list :(

I'll give the flight assist off thing a try tonight.
Thanks!

Ahhh yes the XPness could well be a factor:

Unsure what version of DirectX you'd have on there either.

As support is ended for XP, I'd have a look and try and find a 7 licence somewhere. 8.1 could be a culture shock too far. It is for many. Like me.

Just checked DirectX 8

Is Win 7 stable? I also need to get the English version. The Dutch version is, to put it mildly, 'verbose'.

Oh well, it looks like we'll have to lay off the caviar and champers for a week or two, until we acquire a new system.

Yeah, that'll be your problem.

Windows 7 is, for me, the best Windows release. I was a fool and moved to 8 (now 8.1) and it is somewhat frustrating, but that's a rant for another forum.

7 I would recommend in a heartbeat. If you can still get it.

Thanks Professor  I'll have to send out the search dogs. Frustration! So near, yet so far away... Oh no, I'm waxing musical

If you just need an additional language pack, I think they were released a while back:

TRY HERE.

You should be able to just install them.

i noticed that on the first page of this thread it tells you to check out the discussion thread if you have any problems ie Joystick Discussion Thread but i cant access them to get any help. are we likely to get this access at some point or should us Betas now have this?

Actually this is pretty important - is there a way that thread can be moved to (say) the Private Backers Forum, or into General?

Joystick problem

It seems my joystick isn't calibrated properly...but actually it is (according to config and several other flight sims). Symptoms: The sidewinder keeps rolling & pitching without input. I can't get full control to left roll. Game unplayable.

What is going on? Joystick is a Thrustmaster T.16000M. Pretty decent stick with Hall sensors.

A "joystick support" link was posted in the sticky Beta FAQ thread, but I don't have permission to access the page...

Usually this is because an axis has been mapped to something on your joystick that you are trying to use for something else.

Try loading the "controls" options and mapping your joystick one control at a time. So, for pitch double mouse click, then move your joystick forwards and backwards.

Repeat for each axis.

If you can't map an axis due to lack of joystick axes then map a key to it and stop E: D looking for a joystick input.

One thing I would add to the FAQ is the nurfing of yaw.
I had to do a search to find out why the ship was yawing so slowly.
I know, I know, everyone else probably knows it already but I've been out of the loop for a while.
I can understand the design decision but it makes keyboard/mouse a real chore (must buy new joystick!)

Another suggestion is to add a suggestion to re-map the controls on first mission. I found that it was biased towards a gamepad and some of the important controls weren't mapped. The "predator and prey" mission is a little tough if you can't trip the heatsinks!

I'm enjoying the game but I'm finding the enemy AI a little over accurate. pinpoint accurate at extreme ranges and seemingly able to track and out maneuver me no matter what kind of evasive I take (of course its probably more because I'm rubbish :D )

Is is double click or just single?

Ack, try single. Not in the game right now and having a crisis of memory. If double records the mouse as the action it's single. If single does nothing, it's double.

I've not tried, but I assume you could use up and down keys and then space to select it for binding (maybe carriage return).

Thanks for the answer!! I do have a quick follow up question. Will Frontier be releasing stuff to the premium beta people just like they did for the alpha people before the real beta starts or are we premium beta people SOL and have to play the SP missions between now and may 30th?

Just to make sure my question is as specific as possible. Will the premium beta people get access to alpha 2.0 and eventually 3.0 before the May 30th beta"release"?

Already been answered, and unfortunately - no.

That's basically what I did, but as soon as I use any of the axis all hell breaks loose.
Is it possible that this happens because I have multiple joystick controllers connected? I read somewhere that only 1 controller is supported.
