Based on other Beta release dates, w/e 8 May means exactly 8 May. ... Probably around midnight/Saturday AM. ... BST.

Either way, I told my wife to enjoy her weekend, and that I will not be leaving town to visit in-laws. :)

Can't imagine them doing anything over a weekend?

I'd imagine Thu/Fri myself...

ps: Didn't ED suggesting in one of the streams that this Thursday's live stream would knock heads with the beta release? ie: It would be out for Thursday evening!?

I'm sure FD have busted a gut over a weekend to iron out bugs, server issues, download problems, when they released a previous beta. Anyway, pessimism aside, let's hope it is Thursday/Friday, and let's hope it goes smoothly. :)

There's a livestream tonight...?

For goodness sake. Why aren't these things advertised/announced on the forum more clearly? ie: A "forum announcement" at the top of the page... "So and so Livestream 3rd May 7pm GMT about yadda yadda!"... Done!

- it was in the most recent newsletter
- there is a thread stickied at the top of the most popular forum section
- the date and times for the previous streams have been tweeted 2 or 3 times (admittedly IIRC they only give 1-2 days notice which is not enough)
- previous streams have been mentioned on bookface (not sure about reddit)

Not sure what more they can do to be honest, but I agree a forum banner like they did for the Horizons launch streams can only be a good thing. My point is that if you want to be kept informed of news and latest developments, there are plenty of methods to do so.

It can't be in the weekend. Releasing an update in a weekend is the dumbest move you can ever do. It's when the majority of players are able to play, and any hiccups would just mean expensive overtime and people having to be called in on a weekend to fix whatever broke.

So it has to be before the weekend.

Thursday is a holiday, which would be a really bad day to mess up.

Today is livestream.

That leaves us with Wednesday or Friday.

Friday would be a rubbish day as that is when people are ready for the weekend and are super ready to kick back and relax by playing some games in the evening.

So the only valid options, following logic, is Wednesday.

I just don't bother reading the news letter any more... So that's my fault.

But if you don't go into that forum index, and don't notice a (random) thread towards the top?

I don't use facetwit... So my bad again I guess. :)

A forum announcement on the day...

Most simple and effective?
A dedicated (single) thread for livestream anouncements? Quite simply if you subscribe to that, you'll then just get notified (by the forum)... Done :)

I hope in the new release collector limpets are changed to ignore canisters you abandon, damn thing kept bringing back the stuff I didn't want while ignoring the palladium chunks :(

I discovered this annoyance for the first time a few days ago. I'd never tried mining so I kitted out a Keelback and had a go...it's not for me, but yeah, that foible did annoy me. I had to wait for the collector to expire, then abandon the canisters and blow them up, then launch another collector.

During the LiveStream Ed said that they will launch the Beta on Thursday the 5th of May, but he said "don't take the day off for the release" which is probably indicative of a late Thursday launch.

More like don't be surprised if it get's delayed and isn't Thursday at all. More of a disclaimer.

Yeah, exactly. They'll start it Thursday morning but it's going to take a good deal of time to put up and verify. And then plenty time for players to download, with the servers being hammered. If someone took Thursday off and couldn't play until late evening they'd be pretty annoyed.

Well, since Thursday is a public holiday in The Netherlands (Ascension Day) I already have the day off. And since most of us take Friday off as well (for a long weekend) they better have everything done by then! >B')

I have found most recent ED updates don't really affect me and that's fine because lots of other people get some stuff and there are usually some minor tweaks to things that do interest me and ho knows their may be loads in this release that does. I am generally very positive with what FD do with this game.

Hang on, does that say healing lasers?? You have got to be kidding right? FD put so much effort into creating as realistic a galaxy as is possible in a game, a beautifully rich and faithful reproduction of reality and then introduce magic things that nobody in their right might would ever actually design and build. What on Earth (or any other planet) have they been smoking. Maybe it will make good game play for some but it makes zero sense.

Regardless of what they actually do, their very existence makes this a rather disappointing and unimaginative direction that the game is moving in in my view. I saw FD as innovators, not copy cats.

Still I imagine lots of people will love them for a while which is nice.

Yes... Sort of agree here. I normally play solo or with one or two others I meet randomly, for fun. So I'll not be equipped as a cleric unless something in the game (e.g. critical mission) forces me to. At the moment big ships are already easy game to groups of other ships (small or not) so when I am in an ad-hoc hunting party it is not required. Having said that lets not get too bothered one way or the other about healing lasers just yet, like other games given the chance I will try to kill the healers first if it ends up in a DPS/Healer/Tank type situation. But maybe that will never happen... I was worried about weapons being over powered by stuff found on planet surfaces, but I think I have only ever run across one person with powered up ammo... and he probably would have killed me just as effectively without them :)
