Engineers The Engineers Swap Shop!

Hi,
I'm at NAUNI, rescueing survivors from burning station. Got 4 Modular Terminals as reward and am willing to give them away for free (because I remember the PITA getting them :D)

Whoever wants them will have to explain me the proceedings, never did this before. Name same as here.

o7, CMDRs!

Many of you on the Swap Shop either do not know how to do this, or maybe your new to doing this, so here are the two methods.

Just for safety reasons - is it convenient to fly Solo to the meeting point, log-off, then log-on in Open? Both parties should then just appear where intented, not risking the travel time through the system.
I never tried to swap cargo, but would like to.

If you want to be really, really safe then why not open your own PG and only invite the pilot(s) you trust?
Naah, that'd be too much. Spending evening in Mobius anyway and haven't met a single soul around Fionn and LHS 277, so this feels more than safe.
A bit of tension is always welcome.

Well, you were asking for safety.

You look like someone who might be ready to consider joining a player group. If I'm right, allow me to make a suggestion. We are looking forward to meet you (links see signature).

o7 CMDR!

This should be a function in the game, not a forum post, you know? Not sure why we aren't allowed to trade player-to-player inside the game.

HOW TO TRANSFER CARGO FROM ONE COMMANDER TO ANOTHER.
(...)Meet the commander who has what you need somewhere you both agree on. (...)

I suggest the moderator puts this on the initial post + info about whether both parties should be in a wing or not, to be in same space at the same time (instance).

Sorry, I probably wasn't clear enough. I meant to ask that if you expect the person who you're trading with to pick up cargo that you drop, it would be marked as "stolen" unless you abandon it. Isn't that the case?

I usually jettison cargo near populated stations while in open and watch if someone else picks it up.
To what end? (I'm curious.)

Thanks for trying. I think we are indeed tripping over a distinction. I've always operated with the notion that if I jettison cargo (out in space, mind you), it remains mine and thus would be illegal salvage or would be marked as stolen to someone else who picks it up versus if I abandon the cargo, it becomes un-owned and thus can be picked up as legal salvage by someone else. (Not to distract too much: I know that when you're docked, one of the selections is to destroy the cargo when jettisoning it. I don't remember this selection when out in space. I thought it was: Jettison but retain ownership or abandon, meaning jettison and give-up ownership.)

I can check the words I'm using here versus in the game to make sure that I'm not introducing ambiguities in this post. Since I haven't had the chance to try this live (swap cargo), I can't verify it explicitly.

...and allow me to say: I'm asking because I think it's a pretty important distinction for folks who want to swap cargo. If that's not the case, then that's useful to know as well.

Thanks again for the explanation. I am not doubting that this works for you but I have to say that this is interesting because there is a clear distinction in the UI for doing this. I had a chance to get in game this evening to look. I have a few images of the UI both in a station (the first pair) and out in space (the second).

In-station, the only option you have is to destroy the cargo, whether that be limpets or goods...

In space, you have the two options, as I remembered.

I realize that the text in the images isn't all that clear...

This is interesting because we've both seen "stuff" floating around out there with the various labels on it (stolen, illegal or legal salvage), and apparently there is a mechanism for players to generate these types, but your trades can be done without making the distinction. That's curious. Maybe we leave it there...

Happy travels!
