The epic fail of Beyond

Let me put this here at the last day of the year and I will come back to it at the same day next year to see if I was right or wrong.

I saw the clue in other thread which leads to conclusion as topic says about Beyond. The last update *The Squadrons* was announced with these words:

* Squadrons - Players like working together, w so we’re going to add a new organisation structure for player groups, called Squadrons. You’ll be able to create your own squadron with tools to manage its hierarchy and membership. Squadrons will feature enhanced communication options, making it easier to coordinate your efforts, whether you’re doing completing community goals, supporting your power or manipulating the background simulation. And as a little treat, squadrons will be able to purchase a fleet carrier, giving members a mobile base of operations where they can restock, refuel and respawn.*

If we liken the BGS to a house at the present state of the game, we, the players, are allowed to repaint the fence. We have small brushes and limited choice of colors to do the job. We have already repainted the fence in all colors of the rainbow… countless times and we are fed up with this. We have said thousands of times in forum: repainting the fence is shallow activity, boring. We want to build a dog hut in the corner of backyard. We need a hammer, saw, nails and few boards, that’s all. What we will have instead in Q4 2018? A huge tractor capable of digging holes, but we will be allowed to repaint the fence with it. Can you smell disappointment? CG, PP and BGS manipulation were, are and will be shallow gameplay despite the way they will be carried out. Nobody sane could be personally engaged in any activity which doesn’t benefit him. CG, PP and BGS will always be exploited by players in short term but cannot provide gameplay to keep players busy for years.

A lot hopes are concentrated in Beyond. It was announced as *Beyond will focus on three things: narrative progression, enhancements and development of the core experience and adding new features and content to the game.*

Repainting the fence with different and more powerful tools is not new feature and content. It is the same shallow and boring gameplay we chew for three years and apparently forth is underway. One of my very first comments in this forum was about the ridiculous C&P system back in the middle of 2015. It took two and half years to someone to realize that the game needs more adequate C&P system. I’ve seen a lot of rage quits in forum because of lack of C&P system i.e. the FD has lost its customers. How many inadequate design decisions the game can take and why?

Another my comment at this time was that nobody will take PP seriously, because nobody will put efforts for prosperity, honor and glory of NPC. Unfortunately I was right: PP is dead, will I be right this time?

So because they don't turn the game into Minecraft-Eve-Life is Feudal Beyond will fail? Nobody will like the improvements to planet tech because you can't build your base?

No, a C&P overhaul is on the todo list since quite some time, longer than you are a member of the forum. Everyone agreed that it's necessary the Devs, the community, the SDC, it's just a matter of priorities.
 
You use the word "we" a lot....

Although I do agree with you about PP which many of us advise would not work along with CQC and Multi-crew so you may be right. But Im more upbeat about beyond with its goal of fleshing things out a bit which many have been asking for and FD have listened.

It's often not that the feedback is wrong but that the community is just not clever enough to understand some complex concepts like "time".
Community: We want XYZ!!!
FDEV: We will develop Y in the next year.
Community: NO!!! YOU ARE INCOMPETENT!!! WE WANT X AND Z NOW AND Y YESTERDAY!!!

The priority during Horizons development happened to be Planet Coaster. We all know how Horizons has turned out as a result.

The priorities during Beyond will be FD's two new IPs that are in development. That should tell you how Beyond will turn out.

We can already see what FD has "planned" and it's not actually an improvement. The Engineers rework is a terrible idea. All they are doing is replacing RNG with a massive grind. That should tell you the extent of FD's idea about "improving" the game. Apparently "more grind" = "better game".

You are wasting your time, I am not going to argue with someone who confuses his opinion with facts.
 
Why are you using "we" when you are clearly speaking for yourself? According to some people, E: D failed a long time ago. However, these people don't really seem to know what failure actually is (a shortcoming that is also demonstrated in the OP here).

Beyond will be fine. Though I'll probably have given up the forums by the end of it...
 
Huh, I was just thinking to myself that what we really really need is another doom thread...

As far as squadrons go this sounds like it will go some way to fulfilling a few wishes: better inter-CMDR comms, a base (almost their own space station) and an almost guild like setup. These are all things that come up from time to time. Hopefully this will also resolve the instancing problems...

As for the rest of Beyond - we'll just have to see. They've asked our opinion about crime & punishment and the engineers and look like they've got some fairly solid improvements to come.

As for powerplay and the BGS (and the major factions) - well yeah this needs work too to somehow unify it all into something meaningful. Hopefully that will come too.

Not on your side OP, sorry. FDev are really looking into things right now and they want to make the game a better experience. We asked them to attend to certain parts of the game and they are doing it. Feedback threads have been created and matters are being openly discussed, including live streams for giving us the informations directly. Take part, one topic at a time, or waste thoughts and time on speculations and fears. PP will get some love in the future. When the plans are being discussed, we will be able to share our thoughts on the topic.

Anyway, as has been pointed out by others: Replacing "we" with "I" is the first step to actually get the discussion to focus on the content.

Rarely, if ever, do posts have people saying "We think this game is great". But those who complain often resort to authority by invoking the use of the word "we".

Edit: stopped reading when the poster makes personal slights against specific dev team members.
