The Fer-De-Lance - The Pilot

All Mamba hardpoints are topside.
I went ahead and grabbed me one. I like it! I prefer the two 3s and two 1s HPs over the FDL's four twos. I like unconventional builds, so I'm using my efficient beams from my old Vulture, along with two MC turrets (yes, turrets), and one huge fixed cannon for punching those big ships in the nose.

BTW, I owned one of these on PS4 for about an hour, but hated how it looked on a flat monitor (no sense of scale for those pylons). It's an entirely different story in VR on PC.

ps - I know this thread is about the FDL, but everyone loves the FDL, so I'm glad to find a ship less commonly flown (especially with my load-out).

Sadly my only experience with this ship is being on the blunt end of it, while being ganked by other cmdrs in open. :( Which it does very well I have to say!!!

I like my Mamba over the FdL simply because of the HP locations. I always tend to fly slightly nose down so any hardpoint below centreline is often not utilised. Hence why I like the Mamba. Same thing with my Corvette, the large hardpoint that is at the bottom of ship hardly gets used and I have a turret there lol. It is just the style of my flying, others do it differently.

It also helps that I like the look of the Mamba over the FdL, especially the centreline cockpit.

Well, even for those who fly slightly nose-up, they'll lose some utility on top-side hardpoints.

The Mamba having all of them available at once is a real boon. The FDL would be my choice for fixed weapons, probably, though it packs a little less firepower overall.

This is FDL!

I did give the FDL a try but
  1. that off-center pilot seat and strange window frames is really annoying and
  2. I realized that I do not need a pure combat ship, it is easier for me to rearrange the interior modules of my Krait (or the Python at that time).
I never gave the Mamba a try.

VR just makes everything* better. :)

Now, if only I could make my VR better... (I can play E: D again, but performance is dubious. Maybe I should see if I can trade my two 980Tis for a 2080 [as SLI is useless these days]).

*Except the Asp Scout, obviously. Some things even VR can't help.

I may be selling my Mamba, including but not only because of your second point. Do you want it?

Well beide not being a good fighter I am also not a good racer.
And it is too big for a paper weight.
So thank you but no.

FDL is the Ford Mustang analog, while the Mamba is the Ford Capri. The former is for those with a need to compensate for something, the latter is for those who appreciate beauty.

:D S

So do I! I love the FDL to bits. The Mamba is growing on me, although I sometimes get frustrated when I forget and try to fly it like the FDL.

:D S
For 'similar' ships they are totally different to fly - I'm competent enough with the FDL to take it into a CZ and play, doing the same with the Mamba was embarrasing... I just need to spend more time with the Mamba, but it then takes away FDL time 🤭

Worse yet, I also bought a Corvette recently so dropping into either of those 2 lovely Med's is a 'WHEE!!!' time ;)
